Rangers not getting any respect from ESPN.

ESPN predicts that the Rangers will NOT make the playoffs.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/powerranking

I personally think that the Rangers will make the playoffs. Four of the last five preseason games were very encouraging. In those four wins the Rangers gave up only two goals (a goal or less in each game). I know that it is only the preseason and that the Rangers still have a problem taking bad penalties (or too many penalties). But giving up only two goals in those last four wins was a very good sign. And those were very convincing wins. 5-0, 4-1, 2-0, 2-1. Those are the kinds of wins we want to see from the Rangers and not 6-5 or 4-3 OT wins against bad teams.

A lotta prognosticators said the Rangers would make the playoffs last year. We've been overrated for a number of years.

Hopefully, no one will pick us this year and we'll make the playoffs.

it couldnt hurt.....

While all that's true I do think ESPN was the one of the few not to pick us for the playoffs each of the last 2 seasons. I think they are bias against us. It doesn't matter though, we don't deserve to be looked at any other way.

Respect is earned. What have the Rangers done in the last 6 years to earn any respect on the ice?

In any case, this article was posted on Sept. 9th. Adding Keefe and Bouchard should change things radicially once they get around to updating it.

I dont care much about ESPN predictions. Last year over half of them had Trottier being coach of the year and the other half has NYR in the Eastern Conf finals. I think Melrose might even have had the Rangers in the finals.

Chicken parm predicted us to make the playoffs in his chat wrap.

Yes Barnaby, Melrose did predict us to be in the finals last year. I think he called Rangers-Sharks.

Bucci and Chicken Parm ragged on him all year about it.. NHL2NIGHT is a great show :)

Barnaby 10-07-2003 06:32 PM

It says alot about a hockey "expert" when neither of his cup picks even make the playoffs.

the sharks had a tuff year, and we, just sucked. I actually feel ESPN has great hockey personal with Thorne, Levy, Hrnack, Clement,Melrose, Bucci and Chicken Parm. They just dont need to show NHL2NIGHT alot more.. and ive always liked Thorne and Levy's PBP calls.

Respect is earned.

I would also like to point out that this article is dated September 9.

Trottier 10-07-2003 06:54 PM

Good to see the persecution complex isn't limited to some NYI fans. :p

No "respect"?

And why would anyone even care about predictions? Is Larry Brooks "right" because he is showing NYR "respect" by picking them for eighth place? :p

As usual, Brooklyn Ranger has it correct.

I guess great minds think alike (and you didn't hit the refresh button before you posted--either that or you didn't read my post, sniff, sniff).

Now that Petrovicky is gone, I wonder who Thorne will confuse with Barnaby? Keefe, perhaps?

Naw. Read your post, shared the sentiment. :)

to use one of the famous Zurich Axioms

You don't bet on a loser just because you think his luck is about to change. If I wasn't a Rangers fan I would think they will miss the playoffs as well.
