THIS IS AWESOME! I realize that PL isn't well versed in evaluating hockey players. But he knows how to manage his assets well and he usually hires the approrpirate personnel for the team. Congrats to Kroenke for getting this deal deal. This is certainly splendid news.

Excellent. :handclap:

Glad they got this over with and out of the way, instead of dragging it on all season. Now Pierre can concentrate on the future of the Avs since he knows for sure he will be involved in it.

nathan 10-11-2003 03:13 PM

Well, no more Celine Dion rumors, that's for sure :)

How many of you want to bet that Pierre and Stan worked out this deal over one dinner or a coffee? It's not like Lacroix would *ever* go to another organization.

Fantastic news for Avalanche fans.

Lacroix refuses to rebuild, but instead... re-tools.

syinura 10-11-2003 06:16 PM

anyone know how long the contract is? 5, 10 years?

Jori 10-11-2003 06:31 PM

On the Hotstove tonight they said it was a "lifetime" contract :dunno:

Yeah, I heard that too.

That's what Brian Kilrea got with the Ottata 67's after he's been there *forever.* To the best of my knowledge, Kilrea basically has a bunch of one-year options that he himself can exercise until he retires. Maybe Pierre's is like that.

Lacroix is an entertaining guy. He makes things happen. He seems to genuinely care about his players and is surprisingly modest in interviews. Great GM.

MileHigh 10-11-2003 09:59 PM

PL and Lamoriello of New Jersey are the two best GMs in the league. While Lamoriello is able to always be competitive with relatively small budget, PL makes the deals that gets the job done.

I always hear negative comments about Pierre's relationships with other GM's and organizations.I think the aquisition of Skrastins refutes that fallacy."Future considerations" for that guy. What exactly does that mean? And why give a solid defenseman to a perrenial contender for future considerations...

One of Pierres many strengths is not only that he gets value, but that he gives value. If you analyze trades and aquisitions since 96 the Avalanche have parted ways with numerous key players and just kept on rolling.

Most importantly he sets the standard for excellence for the entire organization. Great move Kroenke!

I read in the Denver Post that it is reportedly a three year extension through 2006-07.

Enoch 10-12-2003 09:25 AM

skrastins was had for a 3rd round pick I believe

No.

Karlis Skrastins was acquired by Colorado from Nashville in exchange for future considerations on June 30, 2003, according to Colorado's official website.
