Every defenseman from Denis Potvin to Lord knows who was the next Orr, but in Fogarty's case a lot of things went south for him. Legends of Hockey at the above page details it and has some nice photos iirc.

Fogarty may have been a good NHL D-Man maybe a great one. But he was not even close to ever being Bobby Orr. Think the next Al Iafrate not the next Bobby Orr.

Nearly 30 years since he retired....and no one has come anywhere near to being the next Bobby Orr.

Not even under consideration. Telling.

I don't know about the Next Bobby Orr, but he could have been something amazing from what I've heard.

ESPN used to have a page that had a long long list of quotes from teammates, friends and family. (found it http://espn.go.com/magazine/vol5no20fogarty.html )His story is sad. Think Theo Fleury, but worse.

The most telling quote was this:

Mats Sundin told me this: "Bryan Fogarty could skate faster, shoot harder and pass crisper drunk than the rest of us could sober." - Max Offenberger

Still a sad story.
