Koivu WON'T play Tuesday

But he wants to come back this week....

from RDS.CA.. I'll copy it since it's not long

Quote:

In English :

- Still hurt (right knee), Koivu won't play tuesday vs Caps.
- Monday, he trained with teammates for first time since injury
- He wishes to come back this week

- Both BEGIN and Bouillon are saying they are ready to play but there won't be any change for tuesday's game.
- Sundstrum is still hurt (right elbow)
- Theo will be in the net tuesday.

Both Begin and Bouillon feel they're ready... no word on Langdon.

Damn! One more game to go speculating about who will be demoted, who will be promoted and who might be traded.

So I guess we can expect the same lineup once again with maybe Begin coming in:

Hossa - Ribeiro - Zednik
Ryder - Perreault - Audette
Bulis - Juneau - Dackell
Dwyer - Begin - Ward

Markov - Rivet
Souray - Quintal
Hainsey - Brisebois

Theodore

Is Begin a center? Cause I truly dislike watching Ward taking faceoffs. To be honest, I really think Komi, Higgins and Dwyer will be sent down for the comeback of sundstrom/koivu/langdon. I doubt Kilger will be back in October, but I can be wrong.

He's a LW/C. He's a 60% faceoff man...

I have aa funny feeling it will be quite a long time before we know who is going to be demoted. I think our players will only come back when they are 100% this year.

I don't think Begin will have a big impact for the team, but Langdon should be very useful. What is Begin good at ?

An energy player that is afraid of no one, is responsible defensively and wins +/- 60% of his faceoffs.

For Langdon
(internet translation)
"Darren Langdon did not be on the ice since his injury to the groin is harsher more than more foreseen."

Don't like those internet translators...

Yeah we don't have lots of those. I think he could make a fine 4th line center and maybe see some PK time as he does excel defensively. He's a nasty guy that likes to get under the opponents' skin to make them lose focus and take stupid penalities. He's no Barnaby but nonetheless he's something we didn't have before in Mtl.

After seeing how well the team has been able to play without Koivu on the line up, I'm not that worried about the upcoming game. The system the head coach Julien has put in place has proved to be very effective, and as long as the players are willing to respect this system, I can't how we couldn't win yet another game, even without Saku. Let's see if guys like Begin will adapt to this defensive system.

Begin is a defensive player, I can't see how he wouldn't fit in well...

I think we played a very good disciplined and focused game against the Leafs but on the other hand, they didn't. They were not showing the same energy the showed in their next game.

Not saying it was a fluke of course and Washington is less frighting than Toronto but on the other hand, if they play well like they've been doing since the begining of the year, they can surely make us look bad. Jagr is on fire right now and there's not a whole lot of systems to shut that kind of scoring machine when he's on.

Koivu would surely have been a key asset but hey what you gonna do...

I'll be at the Bell Center for the opener and I hope they give us a good show. Hard work is all I ask.

I think we had someone very much like him. More I read about this guy it makes me feel hes slightly improved version Benoit Gratton. Both can be described as gritty, defensively sound, being good at draws, having small frame and most unfortunately being injury prone.

This broad description could also describe Peca.

But Peca's description would also include things that wouldnt fit those two - like leadership and ability put points on the table for example. Yeah there are a lot of this kind of pluggers around the league, just not with Montreal. Lets hope Begin becomes some sort of poor mans Cooke.
