Retire Lindbergh's 31 Petition

now its been 20 years since his number has been used its unretired but no one has been allowed to use it. neil little wanted to use it but he could not.

it really makes no sense to keep it unretired and allow no one to use it.

so I have created a petition for it.

I am currently working on a main site about pelle and will post the link there.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but much more drastic measures would need to be taken by fans than an online petition

We retired Ashbee's number and he died from cancer.

I can only contribute that I feel the Flyers should keep things the way they are now. I think Pelle's memory has been pretty well represented by the Flyers by silently keeping his number unissued. I don't know how else to point out that he almost took someone with him other than to say that he took someone with him. Dupre and Tertyshny didn't do anything to deserve their fates, and the organization didn't honor the numbers similarly. Pelle hardly had a career long or significant enough to warrant retiring his number on the merit of his on-ice contributions to the club.

Frankly, I'm against the retiring of any number by any team in any sport (I think it's good to honor the person, silly and ceremonically overdramatic to permanently remove a number from circulation), but that's obviously not the topic at hand.

It was a sad time, and I like how they memoralize him now.

Cancer and DUI are little different.

The loss of Pelle Lindbergh was an absolute tragedy, but for reasons that have already been stated, I can't see retiring his number 20 years later. Perhaps five years from now, on the 25th anniversary of Pelle's passing, the Flyers can put up some sort of memorial in the Wachovia Center.

All in all, the number retiring thing is a bit overdone. Soon, the Montreal Canadiens will only have THREE single-digit numbers that aren't retired (3, 6 and 8)!

pellefan31 12-02-2005 03:14 PM

cool 66 sigs.

the main site will be done by midnight tonight.

pellefan31 12-02-2005 06:32 PM

real quick lindbergh first season was 1981-82.

but according to the people on ebay the 1983-1984 is his rookie card????

81/82 is not considering a rookie because he only played 8 games or are they wrong????

I believe there is a certain amount of games you can play to be officialy considered a rookie.

pellefan31 12-02-2005 06:42 PM

yeah in nascar in your first year if u race just 8 and don't finish the rest of the season it will be still considered rookie year because u met the maxium .

The Bruins only have #1 and #6 not retired...although I'm pretty sure #3 is retired in Montreal. No one has worn it within the last 10 years at least...

If you have special players whom the fans love it is deserved, these are two original 6 teams we're talking about. Although for the Flyers history they have had a few players the fans love. You shouldn't have to win a Cup to have your number in the rafters. The Blues have 4 numbers retired and they have never even won a game in the finals. The Kings aside from 99, have #'s 16, 18 and 30 retired and Marcel Dionne and Rogie Vachon never got a sniff at the finals (I think Dave Taylor was on the '93 team)

I think it is real cool not to retire his # but keep it unused.

Coburnfan05 12-04-2005 10:14 AM

No offense he was great but his career was far to short for this to happen.

pellefan31 12-04-2005 07:14 PM

here is something creepy,

his first season he played 8 games and the year he died he played 8 :amazed:
