Realistic trades

What do you guys think are some realistic trades we could do to make this team better?

I'll try, hopefully it isn't too far off or overly homerish.

Dempsey plus a pick for Langenbrunner
It'd help NJ shed salary and give them the chance to deal away Malakov or McGillis.

Any other ones?

Ziggy Stardust 12-07-2005 04:10 PM

The Devils have too many defensemen, and have David Hale ready to step in whenever one (or two) bodies get moved from the Devils blueline.

I don't think it would cost that much to get Langenbrunner anyway, seeing how well Gionta has stepped up, and with Mogilny, Viktor Kozlov, Brylin, and add a soon to be returning Elias. Their top six appears to be full with those wingers. They also have a decent group in Albany who will be ready to step in come next season (possible candidates include Suglobov, Bergfors, Vrana, Pikkarainen).

A draft pick should do it. I'm sure the Devils would be happy to move Langenbrunner and his $1,655,130 contract for a decent pick.

Langenbrunner for a 4th?

Ziggy Stardust 12-07-2005 04:26 PM

That seems fair enough. Also factor in that I believe Langenbrunner was signed to a 1-year deal (signing his qualifying offer) and will be eligible for unrestricted free agency on July 1st. He has a history of consistency issues as well, but that doesn't seem to matter much when you look at his past playoff performances.

While we're at it, McGillis or Colin White would be nice. I wonder what we'd have to offer up for Langenbrunner and White...?

kingsfan25 12-07-2005 04:53 PM

Mentioned it in the Modry thread where it was suggested that Devries and others could be had for picks: So why not...DeVries for a 3rd.

wabwat 12-07-2005 05:00 PM

some sort of something for Brent Sopel.

roenick66 12-07-2005 05:07 PM

Sopel. Yes, Sopel is the man for the Kings.

Kearney 12-07-2005 05:33 PM

Dempsey or Weaver + a low pick for Bryce Salvador?

St. Louis is looking to save money I think.

AnThGrt 12-07-2005 05:53 PM

I heard Atlanta is having some problems with Modry maybe we can make an offer for him :innocent:

I think the Isles wouldn't mind getting rid of Sopel, but they need d just like us.

it'd be nice, but i don't think de vries will come so cheaply. a guy with a decent shot that could help the pp and could come very cheaply: jeff jillson.

Colin White would be GREAT for this team. He's got a nasty and punishing edge that we just don't have throughout the lineup.

Agreed. I'd rather have White than Langenbrunner if NJ was in fact a trading partner.

Since the Kings are seemingly on pace to lead the league in stupid penalties this year, it would be nice to have a nasty edge on the PK. White/Norstrom and Gleason/Miller would be awesome. Our PK is our enforcer! ;)

Our power play will suck no matter who's out there.

Chronic underachiever, though.

Are you serious? Is Poti on your list as well?

I'd rather get someone like Vandermeer in Chicago!

I don't think that is true. I don't think Isles management has any interest whatsoever in moving Sopel. I'm not a Sopel fan and never have been, but expect he'll be on the Island until after next season.

Venom_17 12-07-2005 10:56 PM

I think we are underestimating the value of Langenbrunner, White and de Vries. I understand the Devs are in a pinch, but it would take a lot more than a 4th to score Langenbrunner.

I bet there are teams out there that would offer at least a 2nd rounder and a mediocre prospect for the pair (White and Langenbrunner).

Love to get Vandy! I've been a fan of his for a while now.

Here's a realistic trade for us-Bob Boughner for a 5th round pick. :shakehead

I knew Vandermeer was tough, but i didnt expect him to drop em with Flinn! The guy seems to be able to put up good numbers as well

A 5th? More like a 7th.

Real good leader and character guy too.

You are right. But knowing us, and our luck, we'd over pay with a 5th.

he was the centerprice for the Zhamnov trade...during the time he was terribly overrated IMO

I never thought he was...Are you sure you're not thinking of St Jaques?

The Hawks also got a 2nd and Colin Fraser, so I'm not exactly sure that he was the centerpiece neccessarily.
