Tukonen to compete in World Junior Championship
From today's (12/15/05) Union Leader:
Lauri Tukonen is skating in practice but not taking any contact. The plan still calls for 19-year-old Tukonen (injured shoulder) to leave Manchester on Sunday for British Columbia to join Finland for the two-week World Junior Championships. He is the only Monarch young enough to compete in the event.
Good for him. I hope he's good to go for Finland...
I for one almost forgot how young tukonen is. 19 years old and playing in the AHL is really quite an accomplishment. Based on his stats and the odd B2 feeds that Ive seen, he hasn't stood out, but he hasn't looked out of place by any means either. I really hope he turns into a solid NHL player for us. He appears to be a good skater and garbage goal type of scorer. He doesnt appear to be a fancy, end to end player, but more a north and south guy. One of the things mentioned about Tukonen when he was drafter was his physical play. Not that he's a rough and tumbler, but he takes the body and isnt afraid to mix it up. I haven't seen a physical side to him, but maybe someone else can give their observations.
