Preseason we talked about what provisions might be in a new CBA and I mentioned and took a lot of fire for saying that the owners were looking at a cap between $35m and $40m. A report ran today that said the following....

the owners are set to push for a hard salary cap of $31-million.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has been preaching for months, on behalf of the owners, that a cap is needed to bring the league's economics under control. Owners have reportedly told Bettman that a cap of $35-million would be ideal while some smaller-market teams are prepared to go with a cap as high as $38-million.

The $31M was already reported and it was just a starting point.
