Why...

...are people stressing over the Koivu/Ribeiro/Perreault situation up the middle?

Three solid centermen can usually = three solid lines.

Team_Spirit 10-17-2003 01:04 PM

cause we are from Montreal

hockey_nut 10-17-2003 01:07 PM

lol... well, so am I (originally), but it's not that bad a thing to have.

Ribeiro has 2nd line potential... keeping Saku on the first line only makes sense. There's nothing wrong with keeping Yanic on the 3rd line... you can stick him in when it counts (when we need a faceoff won) and on the powerplay.

By the way... Higgins has been practicing on a line with Koivu. Could be interesting.

The problem is that juneau play at least 15min per game against the top players . Something Ribs and Perrault can't do .

With the current situation and current players with the addition of Koivu, I'd like to see this as the top three lines:

Bulis----------------Koivu--------------Zednik
Ribeiro------------Perreault-------------Ryder
Sundstrom---------Juneau--------------Dackell

Ribeiro is incapable of being a winger.

1 - He's not fast enough to come in of the wing to score.
2 - He's not big or gritty enough to pull off being a crash/bagner.
3 - He doesn't play defence well enough to be a defensive forward.

Moving him to the wing would probably ruin his career.

No offence, but your top two lines worry me.
The hossa-ribs-zednik line has great chemistry and you break them up.
Also, Ribs can't play wing, for size, speed, and grit reasons.
THe only problem is that once Koivu gets back there won't be room to use perreault, kovu, ribeiro, and juneau because we need a tough line, and none of those players could peform in that role.

I had suggested in an earlier post that Higgins should play the wing with Koivu, maybe Julien and Gainey read our posts! :joker:

lol, who knows... but I hope it works

I'd like to see something like...

Higgins - Koivu - Bulis
Hossa - Ribeiro - Zednik
Ryder - Perreault - Audette
Sundstrom - Juneau - Dackell

Right now, you can't break up the second line. Just wouldn't make sense. The Ryder/Perreault/Audette is doing very well... so it might be wise to keep it together, or put Sunny on the left in Ryder's place and put Ryder on the 1st.
Higgins and Koivu are apparently doing well together... I'd like to see Ryder or Bulis on the other wing. Probably Bulis, more so, because he's a bigger player.

What about keeping the Ryder-Perreault-Audette line while replacing Hossa with Koivu on Ribeiro's line? Playing both Ribeiro and Koivu with Zednik could be very interresting.. IMO

hockey_nut 10-18-2003 08:53 AM

Neither Koivu nor Ribeiro should move from the center position. It wouldn't work.

Right now, it's best to stick with a good thing. the 2nd and 3rd lines i mentioned should stick... Higgins/Koivu/Bulis is worth a shot... while the rest are to be juggled on the 4th line. Makes sense, I think.

Two lines providing offense (the 2nd and 3rd)... the 4th providing a defensive game and a physical aspect... and the 1st line is a test-line - just to see how things work out. If they don't, the 2nd and 3rd lines can put the puck in the net.
