Leafs Hold Team Meeting at Centre Bell

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp...65&hubName=nhl

Here's part of the article:

The Leafs learned last week that the Canadiens, a weak, disorganized club last season, are a tougher opponent now under coach Claude Julien's tight, defensive system.

Nieuwendyk said the Habs reflect the defensive philosophy of new general manager Bob Gainey, under whom Nieuwendyk once played in Dallas.

"It's quite clear that Montreal is a much different team now,'' said Nieuwendyk. "I know Bob Gainey pretty well and it seems they've adopted his style of play."

"If we didn't know it then, we know now that they're a team that's going to be patient and play very well defensively in the neutral zone. Those are the types of things maybe we haven't seen (from Montreal) for a few years. They're a pretty good hockey club because they're consistent in their play.''

Quinn added that the Leafs took the Habs lightly in their first meeting.

Heh, heh, perhaps a little respect for the Habs sinking into the Buds minds? :)

You don't lose 4-0 on home ice with your full team in your home opener and forget it so easily...

Yeah, but if Quinn truely respected the Habs he wouldn't have said they took the Habs to lightly...come on it was their Home opener and against one of their biggest rivals, they should have been up no matter what even if it was Columbus or Nashville.

Typical Toronto though, blow the dough on old and over the hill forwards, ignore the D and no depth of youth on the farm...great GM work on Quinn's part and now Ferguson's.

Julien has a system like Nieuwendyk said and the league is going to have to respect that because the Habs are playing it very well and capatilizing on their opportunities when they arise.

I hope the Habs kill the Leafs again tomorrow, what will Quinn's excuse be then...the Schedule maker or the ref's?

GO HABS!!!!!!! :yo: :handclap:

Even if they know what system we're playing, and they must have had a hunch with Gainey in charge anyway, they still don't have a transition game to beat the trap.

How about the ice was in a bad condition. When roberts in some others players when down with injurys in europe he blamed on the ice instead of saying that there just to old and cant keep up with the play. :joker:

I hate the Leafs as much as any other Habs fan (heck, any hockey fan ;) ), but you can't possibly blame Quinn because he didn't say he has an old team. No coach in his right mind would/could say that. Especially since he was the one who brought them in the first place.

But I agree with this thread main line: Toronto is an overaged team who should be doing serious replanning... Especially with the CBA coming up!

That is absolute crap. You can never take a team lightly, regardless of who it is. This is the NHL. IF they're supposed to be the world's greatest hockey players, then you shouldn't take anyone lightly. Also, how can you have a season opener also being a home opener, and not give it your all? You'd like to think that players give it their all every night, but on opening night in front of your home crowd you'd think they'd reach deep down and give it a little something extra.
