Theodore's #'s after 5 games

I know it's too early to hail the return of the '01-'02 Jose Theodore, but I was just comparing his #'s after 5 games this year versus the previous two, and thought I would post them.

After 5 games:
'01-'02 1W-3L-1T 2.33 GAA .918 SV%
'02-'03 1W-3L-1T 4.38 GAA .833 SV%
'03-'04 3W-2L-0T 1.61 GAA .930 SV%

Boy the difference a good defensive system and lower shot total combined with steady, if unspectacular, goaltending can make is amazing.

Darz,

I know that you are the statistician of the board, so you might wanna try researching something. While Theo's stats look impressive, his GAA (as of Sunday morning) was only about 10th or so and his sv. % was only about 15th. These numbers prima fascie look real good, but I suspect that comparatively (at least in save %) his numbers may in fact be a little down. Am I way off? What do you think?

Either way, it is a great stat to the season for him. And coincidentally, what makes last years #s so attrocious is that the first game of the year, a victory over New York, he only gave up 1 goal stopping 19 of 20 shots. How bad those next 4 games must have been...

Just for fun, what were Hackett's numbers during the first five games for 01-02 and 02-03?

Ford Prefect 10-20-2003 01:23 PM

Actually, to follow up, Theo's GAA as of Monday before games started is 11th in the league, while his sv. % is 14th. Imagine that... Can't buy a goal these days

..

You got to consider the fact that some goalies faced worse teams, have a better team in front of them or its stats after 1 game (and its a backup)

Overall Theodore is doing great so far, and I have high expectations for both him and Garon this season.

Is that only starters though or does it include backups as well that only played one game so far? Cause if a backup has a good night and allows only one in, that makes for irrelevant numbers like 1.00 GAA and .960 sv.%...

I hope Theo will keep up his save percentage at around .910 or higher this season...the habs will surely need it....a return to the form of 2 years ago would help this team out so much

I really think the most important stat here is the 3W's compared with the 3L's for the previous two seasons. :handclap:

Actually those numbers reflect goalies who have played 120 or more minutes. Some real low goaltending #'s so far this early season.
