Coyotes trade Sonnenberg to NYR for Taffe

The Phoenix Coyotes have acquired center Jeff Taffe from the New York Rangers in exchange for left wing Martin Sonnenberg.

Immediately following the trade, Taffe was assigned to the San Antonio Rampage, the Coyotes' top minor league affiliate in the American Hockey League.

The 24-year-old Taffe rejoins the Coyotes organization after having been traded to the Rangers by the Coyotes earlier in the season in exchange for center Jamie Lundmark on Oct. 18. This season, Taffe has played in four NHL games, two with the Coyotes and two with the Rangers.

I'm not familiar with these two guys, any idea who wins here?

Teemu 01-24-2006 07:37 PM

A pair of career minor leaguers. I think Taffe's a little better.

Zoo 01-24-2006 07:37 PM

coyotes win.. Taffe has alot more upside than Sonnenberg

McDonald19 01-24-2006 07:46 PM

so basically the Rangers traded their former top prospect Lundmark for career minor leaguer Sonnenberg?

Considering that you landed Rucchin and Sykora for Kondratiev I wouldn't be questioning your Gm's trades this year.

Irish Blues 01-24-2006 08:50 PM

Considering how the Coyotes posters ripped on Taffe in a discussion about the Taffe-Lundmark trade earlier, it's going to be interesting to see their reaction to (A) getting him back, and (B) getting rid of Sonnenberg.

The "Autotrader" magazine? He's just going to trade used cars like a feind, until he can start trading players again. :sarcasm:

Say what you will about Barnett being trade crazy, but have the Coyotes actually dealt anyone that is playing well this season? Sanderson, Lundmark, and Scatchard have worked out pretty well, IMO. It's too soon for judement on Seidenberg.

Not terribly interesting...

(A) he'll be playing in the AHL (probably for good)

(B) he'll be playing in the AHL (probably for good)

...sorry

In a word... waivers.

PhoPhan 01-24-2006 08:57 PM

Yea, I'm sort of indifferent to this as well.

ATLANTARANGER* 01-24-2006 09:05 PM

Basically we traded a former #1 at #9

who never ever should have been drafted that high. Like Brendl a few picks earlier they were horrible picks. I remember my 1st in person impressions of both. They played an exhibition game here in atlanta when the new arena opened. I could not believe what I saw in those 2 players. A #4 overall pick who was a slob! Couldn't skate had the work ethic a communist and a #9 overall pick who got knocked off the puck simply by another player gliding past him! Two of the top 10 reasons why Neil Smith had to go! At #3, Manny! Put it this way. I'm sure sonnenberg makes less than Taffe, who made less than Lundmark. In other words we dumped salary.
No sweat, even if we got a bag of used pucks for Lundmark, he was a dog and never understood what hard work and earning your ice time was about. I don;t usually bash players, that's not my style. But Brendl and Lundmark never got what it was about to be a player. Both thought that because they were top picks they had arrived and were entitled to play in the NHL. I wish both luck, they will need it.

It's almost like Barnett is playing a video game where he has to make a certain number of trades to fill out his experience.....

Big McLargehuge 01-24-2006 09:11 PM

wow, Taffe has really fallen off.

Sonnenberg was a cup of tea player for the Penguins what seems like eons ago.

Game wise he was alot more than a cup of tea(a full half season), but he played maybe 100 minutes in all those games combined.

:biglaugh: lol thats what I always say to my brother.....maybe he needs to be checked into re-hab.

lets see if he can get through next week without puller the "pointless" trigger

firstroundbust 01-24-2006 11:04 PM

I think gretzky's niece got pissed that her uncle traded her fiancee to NY, so he had to get him back to make amends

and what the hell happened to taffe, wasn't he projected to be like a 70-80 point center?

He could get that on my beer league team. Easy. And we're more than half way into our season.

He'd play 2nd fiddle to me on my teams checking line.

You would think Barnett, with the money he`s saving on Hull and Nedved, would quite dinking around with guys like Taffe and Brendl and go out and get a real #1 center for his big league toy.Considering they`re about to slip out of the playoff race,it`s like this season is a practise season and doesn`t really count.

Any suggestions which real #1 center he may be able to acquire? And for what?

cedouimet 01-25-2006 09:15 AM

koivu from montreal....

i'd say
