This might be a tough one....(hard question)

Other than the Yushkevich trade...

When was the last trade, before Yush, that the Knigs made while the team we traded with was in town to play us?

This may require the yearbook, a schedule, and a lot of time... because my memory is very bad. Can't think of any right now, but I'll give it some thought.

Not sure if this counts, but on March 10, 2003, the Kings played the Red Wings. The day after, the Kings dealt Schneider to Detroit for Avery, Kuznetsov, a 1st in 2003 and a 2nd in 2004.

They were in Phoenix by the time that trade was made.

Remember DT was on the phone in that clip of "The Season"

Does KJ think we'll be dealing with the oilers?

Ziggy Stardust 01-26-2006 05:01 PM

Right you are. I recall Holland was on the phone from a hotel room.
BUT, I believe I found the last deal (before Yushkevich) the Kings and a trading partner made with both teams in the same town.

On December 12, 1988, the Kings played the Rangers at New York (and beat them 5-2). On that same day, the Kings acquired Todd Elik, Igor Liba, Mike Boyce and future considerations from the Rangers for Dean Kennedy and Denis Larocque.

March 7, 1989 - Patrick Mayer from Pittsburgh for Tim Tookey

I could be wrong, but i think i remember the kings trading sydor and a pick for zmolek and churla on gameday against the ducks in '96. I remember finding out about it when i got to the game. not sure if that'd be the most recent one though.

Sydor was traded to Dallas, not Anaheim

I don't know about that one. None of those players even dressed for the teams they were dealt to. When they made that trade made with the Rangers, Liba played for the Kings and Kennedy dressed for the Rangers that season. Sadly, that was Liba's only NHL season, although the Kings got a nice surprise with Elik becoming the 2nd line center for the following two seasons until he was traded to Minnesota.

I do recall Tookey being on the Kings opening night roster though when Gretzky made his Kings debut. He even scored a goal in the 8-2 win against Detroit.

For some reason this question immediately made me think about Craig Laughlin, though I could be way off.

No

But the Oilers being in town and now having an extra d-men did lead to this question

PSP 01-26-2006 07:23 PM

Is there an official answer?
