Unfortuante reality for this team
It appears that we are in the middle of a tough slide and it probably won't get better until after the Olympic break.
It is my understanding that if a player misses 20 games plus their team essentially recieves a reprive on their salary and basically prorates them for the remainder of the season. If so I believe we would save a large amount of money. Combine this with the money saved with the Phantom callup system we should be saving some money. With the probable loss of Primeau @ 2.4 million plus what we could potentially save on Rathje, Stevenson, Pitkanen, Desjardins we should be alright.
So what do we do? Philly isn't that much of a rental team- aside from Oates and as suggested on another thread that wasn't so bad as everyone has flopped in that deal, so do we look for someone with an extended deal or an UFA and try to sign him if he is a good fit. I like Samsonov but East to East deals are rare and he would probably cost a younger player and a pick or two.
So do we just eat our lunch this year and hope we finish healthy? If so, and I do believe we should- should we cut the dead weight now and move on? I don't feel that replacing a guy or two is going to be the difference so, maybe the reality is just here sooner than later we aren't going to win it all, so lets move on and restructure.
