off season resignings

this is what ive amased of who we have to resign this year. how much do you think it will cost?

UFA
Kim Johnsson @ 2-2.5 mil?
Eric Desjardins @ 1-2 mil?

RFA
Simon Gagne 2-4 mil
Antero Nittymakki 1-2 mil
Joni Pitkanen 3-4 mil
RJ umberger 1 mil
branko radiovejic 1 mil

minor
ellison
gratton
ruzicka
ready

plus we lose brashear therien and savage to UFA status

Jester 03-01-2006 01:53 PM

Gagne... 2-4M? get ready for 4+ easily.

FlyersFanJS 03-01-2006 02:16 PM

yeah, gagne is at 4.5 give or take...

at any cost we need to sign gagne, pitkanen, niitymaki...as long as johnsson stays under 3, he is a def; rico around 2, hold on to ruzicka but the other minors can go

Umberger and Radio we'll hold onto...plus we'll lose the salaries of brash, therien, and savage...overall i think the offseason free agency will be kind to us

Plus it seems as if the cap will go up.

We'll be fine

UFA
Kim Johnsson, 3+ million.
Eric Desjardins, 1 million max.

RFA
Simon Gagne, 4.5 million.
Antero Nittymakki, 1.5 million.
Joni Pitkanen, if he's signed to a short contract 2 million, long contract 3+.
RJ umberger, 800k
branko radiovejic, 700k

good point, i keep forgetting about that...that also gives us some major room to make a good acquisition before the deadline

i personally would like to see Joni locked up to a 3 or 4 year deal at about 3 mil

HoverCarle* 03-01-2006 02:28 PM

well gagnes making 2 mil now so id say like 4 mil to stay with philly. and umberger already makes 900k so i doubt hed take a paycut.

That's on a two-way contract and he's done nothing to merit 1 million. (IMO)

Gagne will get more than 4 million. Other than that the list looks good to me. Good job.

D is going to be in high demand next year. Expect a huge raise for Joni, and Johnsson and Rico will probably get paid the same amount.

HoverCarle* 03-01-2006 03:35 PM

well i know gagane is worth more than 4 mil im just wondering what hell ask for.

Four million, long term seems about right. His entire career he's done what's best for the franchise and never spoke out once about getting a bum deal. Four million five year deal would be a pretty straight deal if you ask me.

yeah thats what i was thinking cause he seems like a good guy and he took the 2 mil last year while brash was making 1.8 mil so id say his starting offer is around 3.5 or 4 this year and hopefully clarke locks him down for 5 years.

DeleteThisAccount 03-01-2006 03:46 PM

Hopefully McCrossin resigns. ;)

mercury 03-01-2006 03:54 PM

I could see Desjardins back at $1.5 mil max, Johnsson COULD go, if the price tag is too high. Gagne I think would be $4 mil long term. Nitty between $1.5-2 mil. Pitkanen $2.5-3 mil for a 2-3 year deal, and then he starts making the huge #1 d-man bucks on the next deal after that. Umberger and Radio both 800K-1 mil. If we trade for a winger and a d-man, we'd probably attempt to sign one or both of them if they are UFAs, depending on how they work out.

I'm not sure on what Niitty will make. He hasn't done anything to to show that he's better than what Esche was last year, and he was resigned 1.2 I think? May be wrong. I know he won't get two but even 1.5 seems a little high.

This is assuming Nitty is the clear-cut #1 going into next season, which I guess is not a lock. However, young potential #1 goaltenders will be at a premium under the cap, just like young top defensemen. There just aren't that many of them.

I think Johnsson is a big maybe. He was having a pretty bad year prior to getting hurt and now nobody knows when he'll be back. His whole situation is sounding more and more like Primeau to me.

A healthy KJ is worth the high side of 2 million IMO, but I would not give him a contract any time soon - pending his head that is...

HoverCarle* 03-01-2006 04:32 PM

yeah well with KJ's injuries as a barganing-chip we can get him for cheaper.

I'd say more like:
Johnsson-3.5 mil per
Desjardins-1.5 mil per

Gagne-4 mil
Niitty-1 mil
Pitkanen-2-2.5
RJ-1
Radio-.7

I don't see how they can justifying giving Kim less then 3.5 based on the last off-season and the guys who signed. He's younger then any of the guys who signed last off-season at the number and he's better than at least most of them. Aucoin got 4 mil, Zhitnik 3.5, Rathje 3.5, Rafalski-4.6(?, is that what he got, I prefer Kim to him), etc... A healthy Johnsson is better then any of these guys, imo. The only thing that could drive down his value would be his health this season. I think people forget how good Kim is because he battled injuries so much this season, he played like a top 15 defenseman the 2 years prior to this one (seasons). Getting Johnsson for less then 3.5 would be a bargain.
