Trade for Defense?
IMO, The oilers are in need of another top 4 defenseman to lighten the load for Brewer and Cross. We could go one of two routes: expensive and old or cheap and young.

1) Cheap and Young(er): Radek Martinek from NYI. Isles have one of the deepest bluelines in the league. Perhaps Martinek can play top 4 mintues? Does anyone know about this guy?
Or Karel Rachunek / Chris Phillips from Ottawa?
Or Branislav Mezei from Florida?

2) Expensive and Old: Could we afford Gonchar of Washington? He would help both the PP and defensive depth.

Any comments?

It is going to take awhile for this D to shake out, but I like it. Brewer's battling the puck now, plus bounces are all going the wrong way, but he's a beauty. Smith is healthy and making fewer bad choices (Saturday night's bones aside).

Staios is a fine hockey player, very underrated, and Cross has a wealth of experience. imo Semenov should step up a little, and the ideal 6 would be:

Having Ferguson and Cross log so many minutes basically means that a turnover in the neutral zone becomes (at best) a 2 on one unless they react immediately.

I don't think Ferguson's long for this hockey club. Doesn't mean I don't like him, but Cross signed the three year deal.

Exactly. If the two kids continue to improve and play to potential that will allow us to have Cross and Fergy as our 6 and 7 Dmen - which is pretty damn good.
