Bye bye, Bryan.

Thanks for your time in Boston. Good luck in Chi-town against everyone EXCEPT the B's...

Bruwinz37 10-31-2003 10:20 AM

Adios.

I cant believe Wirtz paid him over 2 million.

No wonder this league is in dire straits.

Dumb move.

Good luck Bryan.

First of all, I want to wish Bryan the best of luck. Returning to the NHL after his eye injury was quite a feat. Now, I'm in semi-shock that it's the Blackhawks, the team of "Dollar" Bill Wirtz and the inimitable Bob "Pullie" Pulford, that signed for unmatchable money.

Big Bry's going to need all the luck he can get.

And we thought our defense wasn't so hot last year...just wait til Hawks fans get their fill of his turnover-prone playing style with that group of no-names.

Oi vay!

BlacknGold Barbarino 10-31-2003 10:39 AM

Good luck, Bryan. Here's hoping you become the #1 d-man you're capable of. Except when you play the Bruins, of course.

I am sorry, but Bryan Berard is not capable of becoming a #1 defenseman.

Lady Rhian 10-31-2003 10:52 AM

I guess I am in the minority, but I will miss him.

I wish Bryan the best of luck out in Chicago. May he have many years of good fortune ahead of him.

Black Eye 10-31-2003 10:55 AM

I'm sorry to see him go. I hope he thrives with the new opportunity.

This is turning into an Original 6 tour! Toronto, NYR, Boston, Chicago.

He was on the way once....

Too bad.

misterjaggers 10-31-2003 11:24 AM

If the Hawks use Bryan smartly, he should be productive for them.

Ftorek did some dumb things with Berard like teaming him with Gerard at even strength. Also, given his diminished vision in the right eye, I think it makes more sense for him to play the right side instead of the left, even if he is a left-handed shot...

supernova 10-31-2003 12:44 PM

I wish him all the best and hope he has a long career in front of him. I wish he was given a chance under Sullivan but I guess his agent took care of that.

He made a remarkable comeback from a horrific injury. I can't imagine having the end of a hockey stick drive your eyeball back into your skull. He's a tough Sob to still want to play after that. My father had his eye cut with a nail 2 years ago, and he said the pain he went through when it was healing was almost unbearable. When the eye was healing it got very, very itchy. Only problem is, you can't scratch your eyeball. Not very pleasant.

Good luck Bryan, you have my utmost respect. Your agent on the other hand, not quite as much.

Drury77 10-31-2003 12:51 PM

Good Luck to him, but I'm glad he's not back with us. I think it's incredible he's been able to comeback and play but he was a temporary fix to a bigger problem, which he made more apparent as the season wore on.

Many healthy seasons of play to him.

jordo77 10-31-2003 01:08 PM

Do th B's get any kind of compensation for him signing with the Hawks?

G'aal 10-31-2003 01:14 PM

So ends the walk-away ploy by B's management that ultimately ended up netting them nothing.

I, too, am surprised that it's Chicago that bit the bullet on his salary. I thought that entire saga was somewhat shameful, even if Berard wasn't worth anything close to his asking price. It's too bad they couldn't figure out a way to sign him and then trade him for something.

Good luck in Chicago, Bryan.

no- chicago went above and beyond the 80% rate (2.008 million). the bruins get nothing, but they didn't give anything up to get him in the first place. good luck bryan.

WickedBruinsGirl 10-31-2003 05:04 PM

Whoa, guess I was out of the loop earlier today. Well, good luck Bryan. I believe the B's play the Hawks on Feb. 14th.

Whoa.....I have been out of the loop. My best to Berard, he's got guts and passion for the game. I hope he finds a fit.

Personal note: been going through a divorce at home and this board and the B's + my 3 kids passion for the B's has been a great distraction. You guys all rock.

BroonBabe34 11-01-2003 07:05 AM

Good Luck Bryan. You are an inspiration to people overcoming their own handicaps and adversities. This Bruins fan will sincerely miss you.

ThorntoNeely198 11-01-2003 07:09 AM

The man is going to be one of the top offensive defensemen in the NHL. I wouldn't be surprised if he put up north of fifty points in what's left of this season, and all the Berard-haters on this board will be wondering why WE can't get players like Berard for $2 million a year.

I wish him the best.

I know I wont. For all of his points (yes 38 points is nice) they dont make up for the other deficiencies in his game. You did watch him last year right? He was awful in almost every game after December.

Correction. He was miserable in almost every game in January and February. He was fine at the end of the season and in the playoffs. Name a Bruin other than Mike Knuble who DIDN'T stink during most of January and February last season?

What? Are you joking me? He was fine at the end of the season???? He was a healthy scratch a couple times he was playing so bad. He was a freakin' nightmare.

He was good up until December, thats it. He was terrible after the first of the year. As far as who was playing well and who wasnt, it doesnt matter (for the record Thornton, Murray, Boynton, McGillis when he got here and Sean OD were good all year)....Berard sucked, he wanted a 200% raise increase, and we are a better team without him.

I know everyon wants to think that he would be a benefit to this team, but he had his chance to prove that, and he didnt.
