"Cheese"steak

We were having a debate as to what kind of cheese, if any, goes on a traditional Cheesesteak. And what exactly goes into the sandwich besides the steak? We have several places here that all claim to have an "Original" cheesesteak but they're all different.

Mikey Z21 04-26-2006 10:59 AM

Not sure whats on the ORIGINAL.....but WHIZ and ONIONS is the way to go BABY!!!!! :yo:

puckhead1213 04-26-2006 11:01 AM

I've definitely heard of the whiz.

GameFace247SON 04-26-2006 11:30 AM

whiz or american...gotta have amoroso's rolls though or it's no dice

Dr Love 04-26-2006 11:31 AM

Whiz is lame. That's what tourists get. Provolone is the way to go.

puckhead1213 04-26-2006 11:36 AM

I'm very hungry now. Can somebody FedEx me a cheesesteak????

L-train* 04-26-2006 11:50 AM

I'll typically cook the steak, then toss 3 slices of american white cheese on, let it melt and get nice and gooey, mix it up a bit more, then scrape it off onto the roll. Yummy. :)

tytech 04-26-2006 12:37 PM

Not sure if you guys have it down there but here in Canada McDonalds has sandwiches now and their "PHILLY Cheese Steak" takes the crown.

Yeah, I was kidding but McDonalds does have one and no other "chain" store has one so I don't know what to compare it to.

Al Trautwig 04-26-2006 12:52 PM

Provo with / Whiz With is the backup

Im from New York, But when in Rome do as the Romans do.

And i go Pats, Jims, Genos in my order.

Love those cheesesteaks, Like NY Pizza/Bagels, only Philly can nail the cheesesteak.

Mikey Z21 04-26-2006 12:56 PM

I am an hour northwest of PHILLY (just a short hour away).........and nobody up in this area can get close to the cheesesteaks from the CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE!!!!

CUDO'S to JIMS, PATS, and GENOS!!!!!! :handclap:

Dr Love 04-26-2006 12:57 PM

Damn you guys. Now I'm really jonesing for a cheesesteak. I might have to try "Philly Connection" or just make one myself.

Mikey Z21 04-26-2006 12:58 PM

That makes 2 of us and I just finished up lunch!!!! MAN!!!!!

FlyersFanJS 04-26-2006 01:06 PM

gotta have the sauteed onions and screw the whiz (i know it's the traditional but the stuff is gross) go with provolone or american cheese...i also like hot peppers on mine

GoneFullHextall 04-26-2006 01:07 PM

cant stand cheese wiz. provolone cheese, lots of onions and mushrooms.:D

btw, there is no other place on earth to get a cheesesteak then Philly.
Places up here try and do it but it just isnt the same.

Kevin Danko 04-26-2006 01:08 PM

Negative, the best cheese steak is from Capriottis in Wilmington, Delaware. Its like 2 feet long for 11 bucks

Dykhuis26 04-26-2006 01:09 PM

Has anyone noticed (at Pat's and Geno's anyway) that when you say, "whiz wit" that the money dude says to the grill guy, "one cheese wit". So now I just say "cheese wit" and I'm given whiz, not american, not provolone. By this rationale, cheese=whiz as the Philly standard.
