Chipchura

Where is he right now??

Is he practicing with the team and getting the full playoff experience. It would be good for him.

Not saying to put him in the lineup or anything, just wondering if he was a Black Ace right now.

Chipchura signed a end-of-season contract with Hamilton, not Montreal. Since Hamilton season has ended, he's probably back at home. We already have a few AHL players practicing with the habs during the playoff (Kost and a few others); Chipchura is too young and too inexperienced for being of any use.

I know he wouldn't be of any use in the actual lineup. Just thought the experience of practicing with the team and seeing up close the playoff atmosphere and crazyness that is montreal first hand, might be an asset to his career.

Chipchura signed a 3 year deal with the Habs:

Oh jeez, my mistake then.

Was Chip one of the guys called up after the Bulldogs season ended? If so then I'd assume that he's practicing with the club. All I can remember is that Cote, Kost, Danis and Lapierre were recalled, was anyone else?

Kerberos* 04-27-2006 10:33 AM

He might be a decent replacement for Koivu if Koivu doesn't return immediately.

I don't think he is ready for this yet... Lapierre is much more NHL ready, but hopefully Begin will be back to take a centre position. Put Lappy/Begin in Bonk's spot and move Bonk to Koivu's spot. Minimum of line juggling there.

I believe he had to be signed before the season started to be eligiable to play this year.

Beakermania* 04-27-2006 12:00 PM

He had to be signed before the season in order to start with the big club. Now that his junior team is knocked out, he is eligible to play. As would Latendresse if not hurt.

Chipchura can play with the Habs because he has a contract with the team. However, he wasn't part of the players recalled to form the taxi squad (Ferland, Kostitsyn, Cote and Danis. Lapierre was also recalled earlier). Latendresse does not have a contract with the team and cannot play with the Habs until he does.

How do you evaluate Chipchura three years from now ?

In 3 years, Chipchura will most likely be centering the third line. In 3 years, he will notch between 25 and 35 points playing mostly as a shut down guy and a PK specialist. I think what I'm saying isn't really a reach because after a year in the AHL, he will be close from NHL ready.

I hope he takes power skating lessons this summer. Skating is his only weakness

I think he has better offensive skills than most give him credit for. You gotta remember he played with a very bad team in PA this last season. If he was on a better team, he would have got a way more points.

He has a similar work ethic as Higgins, and I think he could put up some decent second line points, and of course would be a strong defensive player.

Ive seen him play a number of times. He has soft hands and great anticipation.

You guys think he's gonna be our next captain?

Oh yeah I know that, but in 3 years, I don't see him putting up too many points on the board. Ask the same question, but in 5 years, you have a brand new story...

Hum, our next one, maybe not... Our second next, why not?

If Koivu stays with us 3 or 4 years, Chipchura will be only 22 or 23 so I guess the captaincy with go to another player... But 10 years from now, i can see Chipchura being a captain in the nhl.... With Montreal or Not...

If I remember right, you were pretty hard on Chipchura's skating. Have you seen any improvement in that regard? You seem more optimistic about his game than you did before...

Well he did have a pretty serious injury. He was over a point a game when he got hurt. Then he came back and had a very strong playoffs.

He was one of the best offensive centreman in the WHL. His point totals and his role at the World Juniors aren't reflective of his offensive skills.

I know that he has decent offensive skills, but you have to keep in mind that in Montreal, we rarely see many players who can have many points in a season. Just look at Plekanec...he has a similar role to what Chipchura will have in 3 years and he didn't even had 30 points. I know that he missed some games and he's just a rookie, but in 3 years, Chipchura will also be a rookie. And IMO, Plekanec is way better offensively.

And I'm curious to know how much point you think Chipchura will have in 3 years...
