Who's to blame for these pathetic 3rd periods?
We're now a very mediocre 5-5. 3 of the 5 losses have come late in the third period; 2-1 against St. Louis, 3-1 against Drury and Buffalo, and today's 4-3 joke.

There's no way the Avs should have lost this game after Hejduk tied it at 3. There was no need to mess around trying to do anything fancy in the last 6 minutes. Instead they give up the puck at their blue line and Friesen gets the game winner. You've got to get at least a point, especially after playing a decent game against the definding champs without your best player. They don't need fancy goals, just get points in the standings, they obviously have not been getting them. Vancouver will pull away yet again. They know how to get points, the Avs don't.

Granato is the scapegoat, IMO. He can't get this team to play smart, defensive hockey in critical times. Aebi looked bad today as well, but he is not the reason this team is 5-5.

I can't beleive, even with the glut of injuries, that this team is .500 after 10 games with the easy schedule they've had.

Exactly. The Avs were expected to roll out on fire in October, especially with the teams they were playing.

Granato is doing a horrid job. It's his job to keep his players motivated, not Footer's...

I expect to see quotes like this in the Post tomorrow...

"We know we have to work hard."

"We know we have to get off to a good start."

If the team is around .500 by mid December, Granato is gone. That's the amount of time Hartley was given last year before he was canned. I just hope Tocchet is the one promoted :shakehead

He didn't look that bad. He only looked bad on two plays IMO. Unfortunately that was Friesen's goal(Bad goal) and the other goal where he was scrambling all over the place, and instead of trying to get back in net, he tried to follow the player behind the net and wacked at his stick. Other than that, he made some great saves, and would have been their second best player tonight (behind Hejduk) if he hadn't let in that Friesen goal. Tough loss.

The bad third period's are a complete team effort, it's a different guy every time that makes a mistake. This time it's Foote, who should know better than to force a pass up the middle to a guy who is surounded by two Devils, when he should just make the safe play with 3 minutes left, and just chip it up the boards.

Does anybody else feel that Aebi gives up way too many rebounds, especially when other players are near him?

I heard the NJ commentators talk about padding type. Like Aebi prefers harder pads whereas Brodeur prefers softer pads to absorb rebounds or something.

I don't care what the apologists and homers will say, Lacroix should be pounced with a teather ball for bringing Granato in to coach.

It's almost as if Lacroix hired the dumbest person in the organization as a point to Bob Hartley that any monkey could be behind the bench and the Avs would still win.

To a degree, he's right, but that kind of thinking is what gave the Maple Leafs the clearcut dominance over cup wins since 1967.

If you want to feel better about that, you should watch Osgood for a couple of games. No one in the league gives up more rebounds and sadly, I believe Osgood intentionally does it, which is even dumber. Sharp angle shots and low shots are kicked into the slot probably 80% of the time by Osgood. Avs fans haven't seen anything yet.
