The question was brought up in JFJ Jr.'s press conference today. He said the real estate market is good right now, and so he doesn't blame Sundin for trying to turn a profit. He has had many conversations with Mats, and nothing from either side has indicated that Mats wouldn't want to be back, or wouldn't be wanted back. "He's our leader. He'll be back next year."

[/rumour]

StanAjax 05-12-2006 06:16 PM

He, he, guess Sundin handles his money way better than a lot of other NHLers... ;)

I think I've read that he bought this house only a year ago...

As usual, news like this gets blown out of proportion. Sundin lived in this crazy condo for a while, then bought a custom made house, and now is selling it...probably to move back into a condo...maybe there was too much taxes on the house... :dunno:

I can't see Sundin going anywhere, although he did say near the end of the year that he was running out of time to win a Cup...I would love to have Sundin on our team...even at the salary he makes...he's easily my favourite Leaf...which is not hard to do I admit...

Le Maroons 05-12-2006 07:57 PM

That doesn't sound like he is leaving to me.

Rayne* 05-12-2006 08:27 PM

Even if Sundin did leave Toronto, the last place he would go is Montreal.

Nope, keep on dreaming ;)

And you guys might have read an article about him "considering retiring" don't think anything into it, written by Steve Simmons.

sorry habbies, sundin isn't going anywhere

cjbhab* 05-12-2006 08:59 PM

sundin sucks anyway.

Habs514 05-12-2006 09:02 PM

I have a feeling he might be traded to Detroit for Datsyuk. With Sundin Detroit will almost have the entire Swedish olympic team.

When Sundin is on his game, he is better than all Hab forwards. Near the end of the season, he tallied 21 points in 11 games, proving he is still able to produce at a point per game at his age (I believe he is 35).

lol that's nearly 2 points per game.

and this is maybe the stupidest rumour of the year. he's selling his house...OMG. foolish media.

Kimota 05-12-2006 11:15 PM

What would you guys say one-on-one Sundin for Koivu?

I would say it's nonsense. Not only wouldn't it not occur at all to the respective GMs to do so, but Koivu has a no-trade clause in his contract.

They both have a no-trade clause. But if the guys could be talked into it, and you were MTL`s GM, would you do it?

I think I prefer Stajan (and no, not because his name sounds like my pseudo :sarcasm: ), and the player that Steen could become. Sundin stole Saku's gold medal. :p:
But I respect and admire the player and the man.

Hmm, they'd still have to write Forsberg's name on the IR list. The Flyers would probably accept to do them this favour though. :sarcasm:

What about no ? Age being a key factor. Another one being Saku's no trade clause kicking in June 1st. And, as I don't think it was a serious proposal, you just don't trade God when he's on your team. :p:

I agree, Toronto would not trade Sundin. But are you a Habs fan? I was asking this to Habs fans.

That's as likely as talking both of them into wearing kilts and a Tam O'Shanter.

Of course I am. Location is overrated when you're talking about Habs empire. :)

Habbadasher 05-13-2006 12:15 AM

The time there was a big rumour about a player who was selling his house, for, ahhh, $7.75 million was Mogilny, and he wasn't leaving either. Having said that, it seems unlikely, but you never now. All GM's say "I'm giving the coach a vote of confidence" the week before the coach is fired.

lol....sundin's put up more points in a season, than koivu's best point total season (71), thirteen times, with the exceptions being rookie and lockout seasons. i know it would never happen but what kind of a suggestion is that to begin with lol...and i'm even a fan of koivu. lots of respect.

Yeah he sucks. That's why he has led the Leafs in points every year since 1994 minus the 02/03 season playing with garbage most of the time. He also missed the first quarter of this season, he's playing with Antropov and Ponikarovsky and is still leading us in points and goals this season. Not to mention he is one of the best leaders in the NHL.

No, I think you missed the point. Sundin sucks because he wasn't born in 1967. Koivu, of course, was born in 1993 because we drafted him that year.

Kidding aside, I suggest you just don't pay attention to pointless comments. Even if I wouldn't trade Koivu for Sundin at this point of their careers (Sundin might play his last year in 2006-2007 and say good-bye to the NHL), or at any point in their career because of my huge Koivu bias, Sundin is of course one of the greatest players of his time.

Back to kidding. Now, think about it, if we don't win the Stanley Cup by 2011, we could draft players that were not born when the Habs won their last Cup. Think about it. Latendresse was 6 in 1993. Does he even remember about Cup #24 ? :help:
