Good news !!!

cjbhab* 06-03-2006 10:57 AM

yep, we gotta lock this guy up! hopefully he isn't a one season wonder.

Le Tricolore 06-03-2006 11:05 AM

awesome. let's get this done before July 1st.

Phousse 06-03-2006 11:17 AM

Well, this is one more step in the right direction. I really hope that we'll have Huet for next year. :)

I hope they sign to the 1-year 1-million contract I predicted long ago so I can atleast end the year right on one of my Huet predictions.

Didn't you say that Huet won't even be back with the Habs next year?

Wold that make 30% of your predictions right?

No I said he would be back at $1-million for 1-year. Most people seem to think he will be offered more then that though so I will probably end up wrong. Anything more then $1.5-million for 1 year would be crazy though IMO.

Huet is almost 30 right? He needs to make his money while he's a hot commodity... you can't blame him for that.

I'm guessing his agent wants at leaast a 2 year deal... $1.6 first year, $1.8 million second year, $200,000 signing bonus.

I think the sticking point will not be $$, it will be the length of the contract.

You know that one of the other teams desperate for a goalie will offer at least a 3 year deal... so the question then becomes, how much does Huet want to stay in Montreal?

henri2014 06-03-2006 02:23 PM

Lets hope gainey gets it done before the draft and moves a goalie at the draft.

Habs13 06-03-2006 02:25 PM

I'd offer him a thre year deal... if fits in with Melanson's three year plan for Carey Price and untill then, either Aebischer or Danis are more than capable of playing the backup role.

This is what I'd offer...
$1.4M
$1.8M
$2.0M
+ team option at $2.2M

Well they should offer him a $1-million for 3 years then. That would actualy cost less money then a $3.4-million for 2 years and ensure he would stay longer if that is what he wants. Plus it would be cheap enough they could make him a backup if he was not doing the job well enough.

DerekT 06-03-2006 02:27 PM

you absolutely won't get Aebischer back if you sign Huet. :teach:

Aebischer is a RFA, the habs hold his rights whether we sign Huet or not, we can just qualify him and then trade him at the draft or hold him on our team and keep him until the deadline like Buffalo did with their 3 goalies.

That is dangerous in case Huet doesn't return to Superman form.

I agree with wildone26 here  I don't want to see more than 1.5 M for Huet

And heck, if someone signs Aebischer I wouldn't mind the first round draft picks.

HabsoluteFate 06-03-2006 07:48 PM

is it true that if a deal is not in place by June 15th talks cannot continue between the 2 parties until July 1st?

Talks can continue from June 16 onward, he just can't sign until July 1st.

superstar436 06-03-2006 08:31 PM

No way less than 2

reset assured that HUET will not sign for anything less than 2M $ a year.
WHY :

His last chance to get a god contract as he is 30
He will have 3-4 teams chasing him if he becomes unrestricted
He was excellent last year.

My guess

2.5 / year for 3 years

Toronto will get him and laugh , we will cry .

La Grosse Tendresse 06-03-2006 09:10 PM

Yes, because we all know that they didn't talk before, since Pat Hickey mentionned that they started discussions yesterday...

This isn't even noteworthy. The Habs obviously were going to negociate to keep him, so this says absolutely nothingé

Toro 06-04-2006 01:09 AM

huet will sign within a week at no less than 2 million per year, on any length of contract. MY guess is that he will want at least a 2 yr deal probably a 3 yr deal.

if we do not sign this goalie at 6-7 million over 3 yrs were stupid. Price will be ready in 3 yrs.. this is a perfect plan.. Abby can be dealt for assets or missing pieces and we will be set in goal with huet and danis/halak, until price arrives.

2 or 3 million for a starter is not out of the question IMO.
