News concerning Luongo

go to

www.palmbeachpost.com

under sports and then go to Panthers.

Lupien says he will only sign a one year contract making him a UFA by next July 1.

AH 06-08-2006 12:46 PM

Great.

Now we can look forwad to the endless supply of Luongo trade proposals involving the Habs over the next year.

tinyzombies 06-08-2006 01:03 PM

That was obviously going to happen.

Whitesnake 06-08-2006 01:29 PM

So now we have to keep Ribeiro and Zednik as tradebaits..... ;)

I don't think those are Keenan-type players.

ti-vite 06-08-2006 01:43 PM

Quick sign Stephane Matteau, then we can trade him for Luongo, Jokinen, and Bouwmeester.

We solve three needs at once. Goalie, Centre ice, and a good, excellent skating young defenceman.

Cmon BG Matteau sounds french, he might want to come to Montreal, just don't tell him about the florida trade plan.

Don't worry, even though the guy will be UFA he'll be traded before and there's tons of other teams that will have something more interesting than we do to offer. Would Luongo choose the Habs if he becomes UFA, probably. But he has no choice if he's traded before and the Habs must be ready to pay the big Price...if they want to acquire him. Panthers will still be able to grab some great great players from the other teams.....

Artyukhin* 06-08-2006 02:22 PM

montreal jersey he will be wearing!!!!!

keeenan got no bargining power in this one ...

why?

he can trade loungo to a team he doesnt wanna play for then loungo will walk the very next season ...

so who is goona give up the world to keenen for a guy who has no intention of stayin there..?

unless its a team he wants to play for

MONTREAL is one of those teams....

good bye abbby

huet plays back up

robo in the nets as we make the run to lord stanley before 2009

If Luongo wants to come to Montreal, it's completely in his hands. He just has to ride out the year, even if he is traded, and go UFA.

Well, unless Huet signs with MTL for 3mil a year and keeps up with his unbelievable stats. Montreal might simply not be interested in a 6-million-dollar goalie then.

loungo iis stuck on a pos team . he is head and shoulders above theo

id be ok with 6 million a season for loungo . if huet plays well this year his trade vaule will increse drasticallly

if huet give us loungo type goal tending all season then forget loungo

Well that's the thing. Cristo's stats over the half season or so he played were phenomenal. Top-5 in most categories including shutouts. Even considering how fuzzy goalie stats can be, that's quite telling about his level of play.

Now, I don't think anybody really expects him to keep this level of play up over an entire season. If by some miracle he does, however, and at 3 million per year, he'll be a Luongo-level goaltender, a Vezina-class goalie, who doesn't make Luongo money. That has incredible trade value, but it's also something the Habs might want to keep for themselves!

The question is, though: can Cristo do this? We'll find out next year.

Talent Analyst 06-08-2006 02:48 PM

Hmmm why not sign him at 5 million- 6 million for many year and trade him ??? its better than lost him as an UFA .. bad move from Panters ..

Unless Huet is a Hasek reincarnation, the Habs would be foolish to pass on a star goalie, one that wants to play here.

That's exactly why Luongo wants to sign a 1-year deal. He wants to avoid being traded to a crap team.

Absolutely, but Huet had star-caliber stats at the end of the season. I don't really expect that he can keep this up all season but if he does (if), then he's a star goalie.

Brett38 06-08-2006 04:12 PM

Listen people, as much as I like Huet and as much as I think he done an exceptional job here in Montreal I think that if we had Luongo in net we would have possibly beaten Carolina. The one soft goal each night he gave up was the difference in each game. If we can get Luongo...dump Aebby and Huet and bring up Danis as our back-up.

Habsaku 06-08-2006 04:21 PM

I hope the Habs do everything in their power to acquire him.

More like the one goal Montreal couldn't score.

Blaming Huet for the series loss is crazy. He's the reason why the Habs won the first 2 games. He left in a couple of soft goals, but so did Ward, Roloson and Bryzgalov...Luongo would have left some weak ones in if he was in the post-season too. Heck, Patrick Roy is the best playoff goalie of all time and he's let in quite a few stinkers between the pipes.

ya thats true, you can't really say Huet was the reason why we lost. I mean when Koivu went down, the offense was gone for a couple of games(games 4 and 5) In game 6 the habs dominated carolina but couldn't put the puck in the net.
