Lowe and Waddell spotted together at last nights ATL-BUF game...

THE LATEST ON MIKE COMRIE.

ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION: John Manasso reports Thrashers GM Don Waddell was "seen talking...with Edmonton general manager Kevin Lowe" during last night's Thrashers- Buffalo Sabres game. Waddell is interested in Oilers holdout centre Mike Comrie but has made no progress in trade talks.

Spector's Note: The question is, what kind of return will Lowe accept for Comrie? He's believed seeking either a top six forward or top three defenceman. Perhaps there aren't any takers right now for that asking price? Don't forget, Comrie's salary demands also have to be factor in, and he's thought to be asking for $4 mil per season. Unless the Thrashers ownership decide to take the risk of opening their wallets in the final year of the current CBA and are willing to part with Lowe's asking price, it's seems unlikely that Atlanta will be Comrie's next port of call.

Well, just when we thought everything was pointing at the right direction, with Lowe and Waddell seen talking at a game, Oiler scouts watching the Portland game etc., they blow it off by mentioning the money factor. I guess its back to the drawing board eh?

I doubt that money is the factor. If Comrie is asking for $4 Million per season, no team would be interested.

Marian Gaborik who is easily the better player and coming out of the same contract situation signed for a little over 3 Million. Comrie and his agent are not idiots, there is no way they would be asking for that kind of money.

Martin Havlat who is arguably better than Comrie as well, only signed for 1.6 for one year.

My guess is that journalists are just taking Comrie's salary from last year which was between 4-4.5 Million and using that as their number that Comrie is demanding.

The fact that Comrie and Winter decided to hold out in the first place deals me to believe that one, if not both of them are indeed idiots. So who knows what they are asking for. I would assume that both of them would be looking for a big money contract before the CBA is up. Him asking for $3 mil plus per year isn't out of the question in my mind.
