Huet

McGuire just said Huet wants 3 million a year and the Habs are not willing to go that high. Looks like he will be testing the UFA market. The question is if we cannot sign Huet do we go after Luongo or another goalie?

Owen Wilson 06-23-2006 11:38 AM

If he wants 3 and the Habs are willing to go that high, why will he be testing the FA market?

I think it's too high though

ti-vite 06-23-2006 11:39 AM

What did Thomas sign for in Boston? :dunno:

davenash 06-23-2006 11:43 AM

3 000 000 is too high for Huet. You don't give a 600% raise because he had an amazing half season.

PacketFlo 06-23-2006 12:03 PM

Anyone know who his agent is?

VAN-HAB 06-23-2006 12:05 PM

if gainey doesn't give him 3 millions other will for sure

tinyzombies 06-23-2006 12:05 PM

He'll end up with Aebischer money. He's just high-balling.

AH 06-23-2006 12:07 PM

I can live with 3 million if it's short term, like 1 or 2 years.

No need to go beyond that with him.

I actually believe Huet should sign a short term deal and prove himself a little more and then hit the market once again as a free agent. He will only be 32 and just entering his prime. If he is as good as his half season dictates, he should land himself a really sweet deal in a couple of years (I am talking Theodore money).

tinyzombies 06-23-2006 12:10 PM

Rather than give him 3, I would wait another year and give Luongo 5.5. Or give him 3 for one more year, trade Aeby and promote Danis. THEN go get Roberto. The cheaper and longer we can sign Huet, the more attractive he becomes as trade bait for Luongo. At least that's how I'd approach it.

Toronto Sun ...(today)

Agent Steve Bartlett, who represents Montreal free agent goalie Cristobal Huet, said he has had good discussions with Habs GM Bob Gainey. "If (a deal) doesn't work out, he'll go on the unrestricted market," Bartlett said. "But we've had some good discussions and I'm quite confident we'll be able to get something done."

Thomas's deal will pay him an average of $1.1 million per season, a significant bump from his one-year, $450,000 pact this year. In addition to earning a $300,000 bonus, he's scheduled to make $900,000 next year, $1 million in 2007-08, and $1.1 million in 2008-09.

I'd be happy with $2.5M or less. I know it seems like a waste to let him go for the extra 500K, but $3 Million is A LOT of money.

It would suck to lose him, but I am confident in Aebischer's ability to lead this team, so it's not like we're screwed without him.

sXe 06-23-2006 12:25 PM

Where else will he be a #1? I hope we're not the ones giving him 3M$.

Dang, if Huet signs for 2-3M$, either we are getting screwed or Thomas jumped at the first contract he has ever seen. Thomas was pretty solid for half a season on a piss poor team...

hab 06-23-2006 12:43 PM

If I we looking for 2 to 2.5(which seems to be fair) I would ask for 3 million too, still

think they will sign him soon...

I think Thomas wants to remain in Boston and the Bruins were scared of the Raycroft effect

God, i'd hate to see this guy sign in Toronto or Ottawa and play him 8 times a years. I see a few teams ready to give him the 3 mils.

waffledave 06-23-2006 12:50 PM

No more than $2 million!!! We don't even know if he'll be any good!

There is no question. Aebiescher is an excellent goalie. I don't know what that "question" is all about. Aebiescher is my man. Particularly with Rollie coaching him a better positional game (like he coached Huet => the reason why you elevated him at godly status)

Moreover, we do not need a "Luongo-like" goalie cause Carey price is there growing up in the farm. If we were to get Luongo for 4years, we'd most likely have to overpay, then we'd trade Price for peanuts and see him become Luongo-like at some other place...
:shakehead

Why don't you just believe that Aebiescher has some potential (look what Rollie did with a crap backup like Huet!!)

Nowhere once everyone notice how they have to beat him. He's good right now because no one solved the enigma.

Habsfan18 06-23-2006 02:24 PM

Give him a 2 year/4.5 million dollar deal. :)

I want him back, but 3 mill is alot.

I think Huet may keep up his great goaltending but we can't be positive.
