Tuomo Ruutu come on bob do it

There have so far been no contract negotiations between him and Chicago. im still saying only reason he is saying the word" retire" is to get the heck outta Chicago . he is a RFA make this guy a offer sheet !!!!

ill gladly give the first and 3 rd rounder .

SPECTOR'S MAILBAG.

Hat tip to John Bale III for the following on Tuomo Ruutu: "The Finnish tv-channel MTV3 interviewed him yesterday, and here are some of the main points (translated):

He's surprised over how much attention his retirement-comment received in the media, but admits that he still hasn't decided whether or not to continue playing. There have so far been no contract negotiations between him and Chicago (his current contract will expire this week). He doesn't rule out a return to the NHL, but wants to take his time making the decision. On a positive note, he's surprised over how good a shape he is in, with no pains or aches anywhere; this after having been plagued by injuries three years in a row. The past World Championships made him realize how much he still loves the game and he's not even thought of a life after hockey, but does not want to rush and get a deal in place, instead enjoying the Finnish summer."

Hmmm... A big injury prone 2nd line center would be a perfect complement to our small injury prone 1st line center !! :sarcasm: And all we'd have to give is a 1st and 3rd rounder ? For a guy who might retire 20 games in ? Yeah quick, get Bob on the phone, we have to do this !! :shakehead

started yet? less than 10 hrs the offer sheet can be submitted . rest assured someone is goona take a run at him . how much are the hawks willing to pay him honestly ? whats your opinion ?

Forget the fact that he's already told Tallon he is coming back next year and that he's said in several interviews that if he plays in the NHL he wants to play for Chicago, but this 'source' is a finnish translation or summation relayed to spectors. Seriously.

I don't find it weird on the contract front as Tallon has focused his energies on reeling in some of his target FAs to fill the holes on the team.

Ruutu's contract wasn't going to be negotiated and agreed upon by tomorrow.

whats the hawks willing to pay him ? how far will they go before they take the draft picks as compensation instead ?

$660,000 or below - No compensation

Over $660,000 to $1 million - Third Round

Over $1 million to $2.0 million -Second Round

Over $2.0 million to $3.0 million - First Round and Third Round

Over $3.0 million to $4.0 million - First Round, Second Round, and Third Round

Over $4.0 million to $5.0 million -Two First Rounds, Second Round, and Third Round

Over $5 million - Four First Rounds

Ruutu's subject to offer sheets just like the rest of our RFAs and the rest of the leagues'. I didn't expect any of their contracts to be completed by tonight.

Tallon would have to believe there is a serious threat out there for him to sign Tuomo early. Considering the discussions they had earlier about Ruutu returning, I'm sure there is an understanding in place that this will be taken care of in time.

There is also the fact that Ruutu is in Finland and would have to sign the offer sheet for a real problem to arise.

Also, if a GM had a plan to steal an RFA from a team and was willing to do so at the cost of multiple first rounders, I think there are more appealing, 'safer' players out there to choose from.

okay, no, but seriously, when was the last time that a RFA receive an offer sheet from another team?

when's the last time the nhl had a salary cap ?

Exhibit 15 of the CBA, agents for restricted players are allowed to open discussions with teams.allowing to see if anybody might be willing to take a chance with a Group II offer.

Didn't Fedorov got an offer from NYI and Sakic from NYR when they were RFA?

I remember Detroit has to pay Fedorov 14 millions one year because to keep him with the Wings, they had to equal NYI tricky offer that states if they (NYI) wins the cup, they will give him owe him 14 millions the following season. Detroit had to equalize the offer and they did win the Cup that year and Fedorov ending up with a 14 millions $$$ season. Not sure about the facts tho, but it was something like that.

It was Carolina, not the Islanders that tabled the stacked offer to Fedorov. The Canes owner, Peter Karamanos, is a Detroit business man so he targeted Fedorov to stick it to his rival Mike Illitch.

Also, this year, when the Canes won, Karamanos hung an enormous banner of his office tower in downtown Detroit that read "Congratulations Carolina Hurricanes Stanley Cup Champions"

This would be a huge chance to take. If he gets injure all the time and plays 20 games a season, we would have just waste a lot of first rounders on nothing.
