The official POSITIVE thread!!

OK, I'm just a bit tired of reading so many posters complain about Gainey not signing anyone after barely 12 hours of free agency. So I make this official positive thread to discuss what positive things we have done and we could do!!

I say Arnott, Shanahan, Samsonov, Guerin and Oleg Petrov are still available, let's keep looking, Bob is working the phones for sure!! And let's hold our breath for a long, satisfying laugh when TO signs Bulis for 5 yrs / 20M!! :biglaugh:

I have no problem with the Bouillon signing when I look at what his "replacement" would have cost, and I still hope we get Arnott and either Samsonov or Shanahan!! Go Bob Go!!

Nova_Scotia_Vees 07-02-2006 11:06 AM

yeah and even if he doesn't sign anyone our youngsters get a chance to shine.

Frankly some of the deals signed so far may wind up bringing teams down in the long run.

I much prefer building from within. Another offensive or two way centre would be great....but not essential.

In the long run we will be happy we don't have these long contracts weighing us down when it comes time to sign our homegrown talent to bigger contracts.

KaptainKourage* 07-02-2006 11:17 AM

Please.. not Arnott.. especially if he want more than 3.5

ala Buffalo Sabres

Look at their core... Miller, Brière, Dumont, Roy, Vanek, Afinogenov, Pominville, ...

These are guys that developed within the organisation

Hah $3.5m ? If a guy like Koivu got $4.75m than Arnott should not sign under $5m for sure.

29 teams should be looking to improve, because they all were not good enough to win. The Habs are obviously no exception. However, I do not want Gainey rushing into overpaying some clown because the Leafs signed Kubina and the Bruins signed Chara. It makes no sense. He made two signings last year, a star forward and a quality, veteran blueliner. It improved the team, and frankly I fully expect him to do the same this summer. THe Habs have approx. 14 million open and still have a few FA's to sign (none will command big $$$) so the money is there. If Arnott rushes off to Nashville for 5.5 for 7 years than good for him, but that's way too rich for me. I'd rather they add a Peca or JR and ditch the weasal Ribeiro.

24 hours ago Rutherford was a genius for picking guys who flew under the radar to assemble the Canes and now, any GM who picks up any UFA to any contract is a genius because he did something.

kostitsyn1489 07-02-2006 11:55 AM

I would like to see gainey make a move yesterday but we don't need to sign a goos player for 5M or more... We need some devellopement and if we can sign a player at cheap price like Shanny it's awesome but with another developement years next year we will be ready to win the cup and we will sign some FA. This year we don't need it. A lot of team give some big bucks to good player(Not more) and they'll have some cap trouble.

McKee 16M/4years... WOW...

Russeltown 07-02-2006 11:57 AM

Jan Bulis is still available :dunce:

Isn't that positive?

Russeltown 07-02-2006 12:01 PM

I feel great! Arnott to Nashville!!! :D

At least we will not handicap our future for a 5 years. Bonk still have 1 year left, that's enough :).

coolguy21415 07-02-2006 12:05 PM

I don't see how our inactivity in the free agent market is detrimental to our team. We haven't lost anyone of substance, and most of our players are only improving. The depth of a club is really the most influential aspect for success, not the top line. We're already pretty deep, and getting deeper.

I'm not necessarily expecting us to make the playoffs this season, but we're only one or two seasons from making a serious run.

Whitesnake 07-02-2006 12:12 PM

Halpern and Shanahan are still available.

Is Salei still available as well???

Hab at it 07-02-2006 12:54 PM

We still suck less than St. Louis?

Habitant#1 07-02-2006 12:59 PM

On the bright side, at least the kids will be playing!

Briere came in a trade from Phoenix and Dumont from Chicago.

kostitsyn1489 07-02-2006 01:50 PM

Yes they were Briere went from zero to hero in Buffalo, not in Phoenix, He was good with phoenix but Buffalo is the big reason why Briere he is the player he is
