Gagne REJECTS Flyers offer

pretty intresting stuff . seems like old bobby trying to low ball him.

http://www.nj.com/flyers/times/index...l=5&thispage=2

Speaking of Gagne, it could take a while to get the restricted free agent's name on a new deal.

Bob Sauve, Gagne's agent, said he had rejected the Flyers' four-year contract offer, a proposal first reported in The Times.

"Where we're standing with the offer is nowhere," Sauve said. "It's going to take a lot more than where we're at right now."

Gagne, who made $2 million last season, stands to double that after potting 47 goals and 79 points.

here it comes....wait for it....

waffledave 07-04-2006 09:07 AM

Throw him a 5 year, 5 million dollar offer sheet and see if he bites. He's young so I wouldn't mind having him for so long, and if he busts as a goal scorer without Forsberg at least he's a good defensive player. And he'd please the media cause he's Francais.

GoHabsGO252006 07-04-2006 09:08 AM

Offer him a deal, He's the LW we need. RFA compensation if we give him 5.5 per year for 5 years should only be 2 #1, 1 #2 and 1 #3, that's freakin awesome Do it BOB

That would hamper the Flyers although they should have enough cap room to match I just don't think they would.

Or we could do the sane thing and try to offer a trade for him.... althought it would cost us some young, inexpensive talent.

Gagne hates the habs. He's a real Quebec city boy. Not unlike Patrice Bergeron.

thing i found funny was this

Sauve said. "It's going to take a lot more than where we're at right now."

Bobby clarke must really be low balling Gagne .or Gagne is asking for 6.5 million per season and Bobby offering 4.5. you gotta pay those near 50 goal scorers bobby

The compensation would be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd pick. Realistically, we'd probably have to give up a 1st in a trade for Gagne anyways, so a 2nd and 3rd is nothing compared to having to give them Higgins or other roster players.

are you sure about that ??
I know he's from quebec but hate is a pretty strong word .. especially if the team you hate offer you the money you want !

All I know is that making a $5million or so offer would drain us of all our top end picks for two years at the draft....

Is Gagné worth it?? Possibly... but I'd want him signed long-term (at least 3-4 years).

This is more a deal I would pursue if it put is 'over the top' into the upper tier of the league, but I don't think it would.

GoHabsGO252006 07-04-2006 09:17 AM

If you go over 4.5 which I think it wold take for him to agree to an offer sheet, you're looking at two first round picks, one second and one third.

Over 5.5 per and it would be four first round picks.

Under the new CBA, I think the compensation is now at most, a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick. I might be wrong, but I think this is how it is now.

those first round picks you would have to give away would be late picks with gange scoring 40 - 50 goals a year . probally 20 th pick over all . i wouldnt cry over losing them really espically as it seems the habs can find good value even in the late rounds .brian burke got it right in anhiem . he doesnt care about picks he wants the cup and he goona get one .

montreal has enuff young players would could give up one years worth of picks and it wouldnt hurt us one bit

How about

Riberio/Zednik....

there feel better

Athlétique_Canadien 07-04-2006 09:31 AM

Crud!

Clarke is NOT going to let the Habs get him. We all know what he's like. Clarke usually wants something for nothing I find.

I think this might be worth pursuing but no doubt Clarke is going to ask for Kostitsyn and Perezhogin.

Watch him ask for Higgins :madfire:

We'll see. I'm still smarting over the loss of Savvy Savard :(

I know money talks but put in front of two equal offers from Montreal and another team, I'm pretty sure Gagne would sign with the other team. I think Montreal wouldn't be on his wish list if he was to get moved.

Thanks, it was killing me.:)

I beleive that Gagne is worth 6 to 7 milion...More value than Lecavalier and other player getting 6 mil. salary. The reason I beleive clark is being cheap is so someone may offer something to force him to trade Gagne...
They have Carter who will be a Inginla type player, Richards the same...so they may get rid of Gagne. Any team would be stupid not to offer some draft picks and some good players...

From MTL: 1rst, 2nd, Ryder.

GROUP 2 COMPENSATION CHART

$660 000 OR BELOW........... NONE
OVER $660 000, TO 1M$..........3TH ROUND
OVER 1M$ TO 2.0 M$................2ND ROUND
OVER 2.0 M$ TO 3.0 M$............1ST + 3TH ROUND
OVER 3.0 M$ TO 4.0 M$.............1ST + 2ND + 3TH ROUND
OVER 4.O M$ ................... .............4 X 1 ST ROUND

So it would be okay if he accepts 4 m$ ; i 'll do it for a first + second + third rounds , but not for a combo of 4 x first choices .

GoHabsGO252006 07-04-2006 10:55 AM

I do believe that it could be done, one other loophole that I've found in the CBA (i think) someone can correct me. Is that those picks need to belong to our team and not traded and recieved by another. Also they must be in the first 2 (for two first round picks) of 3 drafts where we have said pick available. Therefore if we in each draft that we do not want to give them a pick trade down one spot for no extra consideration and I don't see why another team wouldn't want to move up one spot for no reason, we can continuously delay forfeiting our picks. I"ll have to double check but just glancing I saw no reason this would not work.

I believe it's been changed under the new CBA.

Artyukhin* 07-04-2006 10:56 AM

our we could just trade straight outright for him
