Clarke signs more slop

According to Glen Macnow on WIP just 5 minutes ago

Mark Cullen C/LW from Chicago

Assets Has solid playmaking skills and on-ice vision. Proved he could score at the collegiate level.
Flaws His lack of size and strength will always hurt his chances for regular NHL employment. Isn't a natural goal-scorer.
Career potential Fourth line forward

2005-06 Norfolk AHL 54 29 39 68 +6 48 - -
2004-05 Houston AHL 64 10 24 34 -5 26 140 7.14

Dig Out Your Soul 07-05-2006 10:33 PM

Wooo! The Stanley Cups will come rolling in now!

I hope that isn't the "one other guy" he was talking about earlier today.

Lupul* 07-05-2006 10:33 PM

This must be Clarke's "one last signing."

I sure as hell hope not.

If it is, I am finally writing Clarke off for good. This guy is just not suited to develop a team that does not play in the 70s.

Roger's Pancreas* 07-05-2006 10:35 PM

It's official, Clarke will not sign forwards over 6'0 tall to overly compensate for last year's huge disappointment.

I would be curious to know what the salaries add up to for Robitaille, Murray, Tapper, Baumgartner and Johnsson.

Could we have gotten a better forward and dman for the total of those?

Apparently, Clarke's theory is that we dont have much money to work with so lets get 10 guys at minimum wage instead of two that will actually play more then 5 minutes and help the team :dunno:

Why didnt we keep Rado? He is better then anything they have signed.

yea in 29 games. on a bad team. if he is a playmaker then one would think better numbers would come on a beter team. this is a good signing. why does everyone expect us to get a big gun. we were the biggest players last year. most are still here like it or not they cost a lot. we still have a shot at the atlatic. plus i think a trade is going to happen eventually with all rhs depth.

GKJ 07-05-2006 10:45 PM

I was just out with my friends for my birthday and I was talking about how things around the league were done that made me happy for my birthday, like the Kings getting Cloutier and Marian Gaborik re-signing with the Wild and I said "but the Flyers disappointed me"

How ever I was wrong. They gave me a pretty good laugh

I love the title of the thread.

I'm gonna remember this for the rest of my life. Unless I get demetia, so I'll make sure I have this written down on something important.

How could you say this is a good signing, cap or no cap. We have about 40 4th line players. I rather throw someone like Potulny in on the 4th line then any of the players we have signed.

Robitaille: 600k
Murray: not official yet but: 500-600k
Tapper: 450k
Baumgartner: 1.2 mil.
Johnsson: i've read everyting from 450k to 942k.

Not every player counts against the cap, only the 20-23 who are on the Flyers roster, hence it doesnt matter how many players the Flyers have on minimum wage, because for as long as they dont play any games with the Flyers they dont count against the cap.

Both Robitaille and Murray are better the Radio, especially on the offence. Tapper is an extra forward, he'll probably spend alot of time with the Phantoms.

This signing is nothing to be upset about, he wont play with the big team this year. (i hope)

sansan 07-05-2006 10:48 PM

I'm guessing this is a predominantly a phantom's signing. Nothing to get into a huff about. But to each his own.

Roger's Pancreas* 07-05-2006 10:50 PM

All I gotta say is this: those guys better work their ***** off every ******* night, no matter what arena they're playin' in.

Robitaille may be slightly better on the offense, but not Murray.

The point is that these signing are nothing. They mean nothing. They do not help the team get any better then they were last year. We have 40 of these types of players that can play on the bottom line.

Not counting Forsberg and assuming we resign Gagne our top 9 is currently Gagne, Knuble, Umberger, Carter, Dimo, Richards, Handzus, Nedved, Kapanen if Primeau is healthy that is 10, with Forsberg that is 11. I say Eager makes 12.

In essence, we have signed Robitaille, Murray, Tapper, Cullen to play one spot on the team or with the Phantoms if any of them are two way contracts. We already have Ellison on the Phantoms that can be a good 4th liner in the NHL and we have young guys like Potulny, Downie, etc. that I much rather give a shot in the NHL then players we dont need.

They are bad moves, cap or no cap, in the fact that they are wastes of time. They do not help this team get better.

They have Forsberg's money to play with as well for the first half of the season. Do something with it. When he comes back, get rid of Nedved and make some other moves to free up salary.

Again:

gimme an olands 07-05-2006 10:55 PM

this may be a good move, guys. 16 points in 29 games ain't that bad. my cousin is a hawks fan and he was ranting and raving about this guy near the end of last season.

fingers crossed!

chthonic 07-05-2006 10:59 PM

i bet i could get signed by the flyers just for walking down the street at a moderate pace.
they'd release a statement about how i'm fit for the "new nhl."

Are you 5-11 or less? Can you skate? Can you play both LW and C? Are you irrelevant? Do you have to be a diehard hockey fan to know who the heck you are? Did you play less then 30 games last year or not even in the NHL? Is your career potential a decent 11 or 12th forward on the team?

If you answered yes to all the above, you have a contract with the Flyers.

sounds good. i think that a lot of these guys have the potential to have a great years relative to what they have done previously. I thnk that we have the potential to have a rea;;y good team.

Either i am in Bizarro world or Craig Patrick has taken over the Flyers

Art Vandelay 07-05-2006 11:06 PM

Funny fact:

With the following 12 centers under contract we're now stacked from the 1st line of the Flyers to the 4th line of the Titans.

Forsberg
Carter
Richards
Primeau

Nedved
Handzus
Umberger
Robitaille

Murray
Cullen
Potulny
Ellison
