Should NYR re-sign Sykora

Should NYR re-sign Sykora

I'd say a definite yes, for one year.

Who else are we going to get to be the 2nd line RW? Rucinsky/Shanahan are LW, as are Prucha/Dawes, and Cullen/Straka - I would *much* rather Sykora signed and playing in his natural position than forcing one of those six to play it.

Edit: And he's pretty damn good in shootouts. Last year, we had the 2nd most shootout losses in the East (12, to Boston's 16). If we'd won two more of those, we'd have won the division.

Larry Melnyk 07-08-2006 11:34 AM

No way in hades...He is the antithesis of what we need on the top 6 right now...Passive, feeds off others, 1-dimensional (reduced to zero dimnesnions atthe end of last year). little backchecking and often fancy and foolish passes...Exploe all oither avenues, including kids...

If we resigned Rucinsky likes its rumored, then no.

eco's bones 07-08-2006 11:44 AM

I voted no but I wouldn't be devastated if he came back for one year at a reasonable price 2.5 mil let's say. I think Petr will want more than that in terms of money and years. That's one major reason why the older Rucinsky may be more attractive--should cost less and also more likely to be shorter term and also he's a more flexible player. Petr started off pretty well when we got him but I wasn't impressed with how he finished.

And to be even more clear I agree with this statement too. One of the two should not come back.

not if we can replace him with shanahan.

agreed---although with shanny, sykora would provide depth.
YES--resign----1 year...no brainer. little room for new guys though...hmmmm hard choice---depends on shanny..no shanny, then def. sykora--final stance.

DutchShamrock 07-08-2006 12:36 PM

It really depends on if Rucinsky is back or not. I say no, but if Martin is let go I wouldn't necessarily object to it. I really have a feeling that we will see the Sykora of Anaheim and the end of the season and not the guy who did very well right after the trade.

nyr7andcounting 07-08-2006 04:15 PM

I don't really like him or Rucinsky too much, but we need to bring one of them back. Since the spot we need one of these guys to fill is on RW I'd bring Sykora back because that's his natural position. Plus he's a more experienced in the playoffs, if we do make it again. Don't really want either but gotta pick one.

RothmanHockey 07-08-2006 04:48 PM

YES for one year, him on the second line would be a nice fit, IMO.

SingnBluesOnBroadway 07-08-2006 05:04 PM

I voted no. At least not at 3M. I would also rather sign Shanny.

BrooklynRangersFan 07-08-2006 05:34 PM

Can't answer this in a vacuum. Need to know what's going on with Rucinsky and Shanny.

n8 07-08-2006 06:33 PM

If not shanny, then sykora.

Plato 07-09-2006 09:39 AM

voted no on condition that ruschinsky will also be signed along with shanahan

BrooklynRangersFan 07-09-2006 11:30 AM

Well, now I can officially vote no. Although if I have to take one of Rucinsky and Sykora, I'll take Sykora.
