Why all these 1 year deals?they are young players and we do want to keep them?I don't get it

x-bob 07-10-2006 03:15 PM

I HATE THESE ONE YEAR DEALS. WE are just gonna go through the same thing next year. It doesn't always make sense!

What's the difference? At the end of the 1-year deal they're still restricted, so we still get to keep them.

1 year deals in concept = incentive to improve your game so you can get the multi-deal contract.
with rfa's, 1 year deals are usually the way to go.

at least, he's still RFA next year, and the year after, and the other year after that

waffledave 07-10-2006 03:18 PM

One year deals are often the player's choice. Higgins, for example, had no bargaining power. Since he's a sophmore, he could not make more than $1 mil this season. No way is he going to sign for a multi year deal when he's limited in how much he can take home.

Talent Analyst 07-10-2006 03:32 PM

Good sign !! :yo:

One year deals are way to go with young players, until you know what they are worth. You need to earn long term contracts.

ChemiseBleuHonnete 07-10-2006 03:38 PM

the question is how much?

I'm happy we have him signed.

It's most likely them what want one year deals so they can get more money on their next deal because the expect to have a good season.

Probaly a little over 1M , to fit the QO. Komisarek really improved when he was given the ice time and put in the situation to have sucess. He's turning into the type of D-men most of us expected to see when he was drafted , at this point he's a solid top-4. He just need a full season at this level to ink a more lucrative long term deal.

pavlako11 07-10-2006 04:32 PM

How much did he play for last year? Over a million would be kind of much right now, no?:dunno:

It was something like 950k i think. Being a top10 pick Komi had a lucrative entry deal and just took the 10% raise, i assume. He could have pulled a Higgins and take a paycut but i doubt it.

Tuggy 07-10-2006 04:43 PM

I'm telling you guys...this is gonna be Komisarek's break out year! :yo:

pavlako11 07-10-2006 04:43 PM

Ok, well if it was 950K then it's probably safe to say he's Montreal's newest millionaire :)

the QO would be a little less then 950K

Get over the Ribeiro thing already.

This thread is about Komo being back for another season and see him continue to improve! :yo:

Habsfan18 07-10-2006 05:54 PM

I hate 1 year deals.

I'm happy he's signed though.

wholeshow* 07-10-2006 06:05 PM

so all we have to resign are aebischer, perezhogin and ryder.
i suspect komi getting a contract something in the neighborhood of 1 million flat.
So we'll have roughly 9.8 million left over to sign those 3.
I expect Aebi to something around 2 million for one year (could be traded) and replaced with Danis who should make around 1 million, perezhogin shouldn't see anything about 800k, and then there's ryder who should see something between 1.5 and 2 million.

if we keep aebi, resign perez and keep ryder at 1.5
we'll have a healthy payroll of 38.5 million...which be tons of room to add players mid season. we're also in a good position to add some quality players that may have a large contract behind them.
If we are able to trade zednik for lang, we'd only pickup 1.9 million salary putting our cap situation at 40.3 million (estimated).
Bob has been fiscally responsible and he should be commended for not breaking the bank for players that we don't need.
