Nashville interested in Tyler Wright?

According to the Columbus Dispatch this morning Nashville is interesting in signing UFA Tyler Wright. That would be interesting eh? If Tootoo ever got hungry on the plane he'd have someone right there to snack on.

Why in the world would we want to pick up Wright?

That one is a head scratcher.

I agree - signing Tyler Wright makes zero sense. Wouldn't the Preds rather give the roster spot to Fiddler or somebody like that? Also, does anybody know if the Upshall to center conversion is still a possibility?

I wouldn't put to much stock into this article Preds fans...as the Dispatch's finest hockey beats have been known to miss the mark before...a little to often for my liking to be honest with ya..

WOW! I got 2 warning points from your mod last year for saying something similar to this...........

burgess1978 07-16-2006 01:16 AM

FYI ...

Tyler Wright is not UFA - he is under contract for one more year with Anaheim. He won't be invited to camp this year though; he's expected to retire and take a coaching/scouting/back office job with Columbus.

Since the Ducks paid the remainder of last year's salary while he was "retired," I think Anaheim still owns his rights. However, I doubt the Ducks are willing to bring him back.

3mta3 07-16-2006 06:11 AM

The article reported that the Ducks bought out the final year of Wright's contract last month. He's not on the Ducks roster, not listed as under contract on NHLPA.com, not with a team on TSN but I never saw any report that he was bought out.

he is free agent

From the Tennessean:

Quote:

Not the Wright fit: The Predators looked into possibly signing free-agent center Tyler Wright earlier this month. But the potential deal fizzled because Wright, a 13-year veteran, was interested only in a one-way contract.

So really we wanted him in the AHL.

SmokeyClause 07-17-2006 07:44 AM

That's the only logical place for him in our organization anyways. Who's he going to beat out for 4th line spot anyways?

triggrman 07-17-2006 07:45 AM

In the article they call him a center.

Yeah, I noticed that and changed my post. There's even less room at center. We have 3 4th line centers already on the team in Nichol, Smithson, and Fiddler. He has a much better shot of making it on the wings if we have a few injuries on the lower lines. Either way, he's in Milwaukee until someone gets injured. He's just not a very good hockey player and his heart-and-soul element isn't strong enough to push him ahead of guys like Hordi and Tootoo.
