Gagne for Comrie?

Would this work for you?? Maybe Edmonton should throw in a pick?

This would not be for Philly to keep him, but for the following to occur:

Gagne to Edmonton for Comrie
Comrie and Kim Johnsson to Calgary for Iginla

What do you think??

No you would have to throw in Woywitka or Seidenberg...Something like this:

EDM to PHILLY to CAL
Comrie and Johnsson to Calgary
Gagne and Woywitka to Edmonton
Iginla to Philly.

So far off it's not even funny.

Okay, how about:

Comrie and Woywitka to Calgary
Gagne and Johnsson to Edmonton
Iginla, Rita, Semenov, 2nd (from Edmonton) to Philly

:dunno:

Semenov probably isn't going anywhere... a guy like Smith, Staois or Ferguson might, but not Semi.

Both of those proposals are horrible.

The first one shows that Flyers fans still overrate Gagne. Phili won't get Comrie for Gagne straight up, let alone Lowe throwing in a draft pick :joker:

The second one, we give up too much depth and don't get enough in return.

blah 11-11-2003 07:59 AM

ATL won't give up Coburn for Comrie but yet the Flyers are going to drop Gagne for him? That's just asinine. Gagne>Comrie.

Johnsson is going nowhere. Why would the Flyers give up one of their top 2 dmen and not get a better one in return?

Iginla makes 7.5mil there's no way the Flyers will add that much salary.

None of the above proposals are feasible.

Gagne had 3 good seasons and one injury riddled bad season. He's got 7 points in 11 games despite missing some time this season. I don't see any reason to believe he's slipped at all.

I'd consider Gagne the better player...

However, there's no way that Philly would give up Woywitka and Gags for Comrie. Holy OVERPAY Batman!

I try not to get into these who-is-better type debates, but lets look at the numbers and see who "really" has only had 1 good year:

Mike Comrie - 23 years old - 3 years in NHL

2003-04 (?????)
2002-03 Edmonton NHL 69 20 31 51 -18 90 170 11.76 (decrease)
2001-02 Edmonton NHL 82 33 27 60 +16 45 170 19.41 (increase)
2000-01 Edmonton NHL 41 8 14 22 +6 14 62 12.90
Total NHL 192 61 72 133 +4 149 402 15.17

Simon Gagne

2003-04 Philadelphia NHL 11 2 5 7 +2 2 23 8.70 (???)
2002-03 Philadelphia NHL 46 9 18 27 +20 16 115 7.83 (injuries)
2001-02 Philadelphia NHL 79 33 33 66 +31 32 199 16.58 (increase)
2000-01 Philadelphia NHL 69 27 32 59 +24 18 191 14.14 (increase)
1999-00 Philadelphia NHL 80 20 28 48 +11 22 159 12.58
Total NHL 285 91 116 207 +88 90 687 13.25

I think it is fair to say that Simon would be considered the better player by stats, but by a very, very slim margin. Comrie declined after his one good year. Gagne is probably better defensively and has never been a minus player, Comrie last year was a -18. Gagne also played in the Olympics something Comrie has yet to do despite being the same age.

I just don't see the value of this trade being way off. They both have 1st line potential. Simon has shown to be a little injury prone, which should be helped playing in the West, while Comrie has 1st line potential but refuses to play for the team that currently has his rights.

momentai 11-11-2003 08:49 AM

Be aware that Comrie was playing with a thumb injury last season and definitely hampered his scoring.

I'd love to get Gagne to play for the Oilers, I think he'd fit right in.
Imagine a line of Gagne-Pouliot-Hemsky in a few years.

LoudmouthHemskyfan#1 11-11-2003 12:14 PM

If we absolutely have to deal Comrie, and Gagne is offered, I'd definately be considering that deal. Possibly putting in a prospect and getting one out of Philly as well. Simon is a very good hockey player who'd fit in well. It's alot better than getting a prospect back or a 3rd line center.

Gagne is the better player right now I'd say. And even if they are at an equal level, that's alot better than some offers we're getting. Just a question Thome, why would you prefer Frolov to Gagne? I'd prefer Gagne to almost every deal that has been thrown around. The guy can score, he has some serious game, another Olympic guy, there's lots of things there to like. If Philly offered him up, and we had to deal, I'd certainly be negotiating with Philly first from what I've seen. Makes that Atlanta offer look like junk.

Cerebral 11-11-2003 12:25 PM

I agree, Gagne would look great in Edmonton! Unfortunately, while the argument can be made that their values are relatively similar, I think most would place Gagne a step ahead of Comrie. :( He hasn't had the most stellar start to the season but I still don't think Clarke would trade him for Comrie..
