hockey_nut 07-23-2006 01:22 PM

best news i've heard all weekend!

CH Wizard* 07-23-2006 01:22 PM

The terms of the deal werent disclosed...

Hurry up tsn!!

And he's a ufa after this season right?

YOUTH OF HABS 07-23-2006 01:22 PM

my guess is he got something like $2.2. only wish he would have signed a 3 year deal....

Dan K 07-23-2006 01:22 PM

Good to have him signed, but I'll reserve judgment till we see how much.

Hopefully this wasn't a panic signing (and thus too much money) based on the early arbitration results.

MathMan 07-23-2006 01:23 PM

Good. The Habs need him.

I'm curious to see for how much it is.

No, still RFA. I think the year after he would be UFA.

Natural Habs Fan 07-23-2006 01:24 PM

Jesus you guys are fast... but another 1 year contract?

Hmmm I'm not sure...I don't think so...

Seems to me if he would of gotten this via arbitration, then next year he would be elligible for UFA status

I was hoping for a two to three year term, but good news anyway. Curious as to how much he's signed for. :yo: :D That's everybody signed now. Great for us.

But in all seriousness, 2.25

Prrebel 07-23-2006 01:28 PM

You wonder why we go through this every year?

Ryder was the best player in Hamilton in 03-04 so we sign him for 1 year.
Runner up for rookie of the year in 04-05, so we he gets a 1 year contract.
Scores 30 to lead the Habs in a season that saw him play half the year injured. So he gets 1 year.

And there are guys on this site that say its time to trade him cause he is always asking for too much. Wake up people... he is looking for a 3 year contract, not neccessarly more money. Why does the Habs continue to do this to him? Sad to say but I can't see him being a Hab for much longer.

And people wonder why nobody wants to play here.

Guy Caballero 07-23-2006 01:28 PM

If it was merely a matter of a half a million dollars, I'm glad Bob just got it done before arbitration, which always involves an ugly clash of egos and a bitter aftertaste.

Now Ryder has another full year to prove to the Habs that he's a leader of the franchise who deserves to be locked up long term.

Fattal 07-23-2006 01:30 PM

I would say 2.5M for Ryder.

Prrebel 07-23-2006 01:30 PM

Yea, but what if "only" scores 30 next season?
Only sign him to a 1 year deal again, to see if it was just a one year thing?

Maybe it's Ryder who wants 1year deals because he know he can do better.

Prrebel 07-23-2006 01:34 PM

Ryder has been looking for a muli-year contract the last couple of seasons.

link?

GoHabsGO252006 07-23-2006 01:36 PM

It's very common for teams to only sign 1 year deals until the year before UFA status, thus allowign the closest possible estimation to a players value over the long term

bayrider 07-23-2006 01:36 PM

2.3-2.4m

Squeaky 07-23-2006 01:39 PM

I think you guys might be guessing a little low for Ryders contract. I think it will be north of 2.5 million.
