The: "Im Réjean Houle, habs GM master" game!
I feel it's now time to seriously make some fun of all those damn annoying trade proposals.
I say instead, what trades would you make if you were.....
That's right ladies and gents! You are in the seat of Mister Houle, the genius, the master, the conqueror as the Canadiens' GM!
You have access to all current habs players. The only one you cannot trade is Saku Koivu as he has secretly conned you into giving him a no-trade clause!
Makeyour deadly trades for the leagues sharpest skaters!
Find your Lind for our Plekanec
Our Darby for Downey
Our Thibault for Huet....
Good luck to you all in your adventure!
Each trade MUST be somewhat realistic. Build your team to win the "stanley cup" à la Houle!
This game is for entertainment purposes and not meant to be for real. Any resemblance to any living or dead persons in this thread is purely coincidental. No animals were harmed in the making of this thread. Have a subway sub, eat fresh! She's maybeline! Just do it. Nike.
Berezin for Samsonov
Traverse for Dandenault
Zubrus for Kovalev
you've got to build a complete team with your trades darling.
you can trade pics as well.
as long as you build 23 manned ship
meh the whole 99-00 team.
Or you want it with actual players?
*Has realase Ribeiro and ink Arnason*
make REALISTIC trades. well, try anyways.
the point of the thread is to see how far we've come and have some fun with it.

Réjean Houle is living a secret identity in Toronto!
More details to follow....
Good idea for this game, only problem is we are a young, growing team right now, where as back in 94-95, we were coming off a cup win with plenty of proven veterans and some all stars. Many of those players are still around today. Trading Huet for crap wouldn't have the same impact as Roy for... well, you know.
Oh well, if I must I must. Huet & Aerbisher traded for Jim Carey & 6th rounder, Kovalev & Ryder for Yashin and their 1st round draft pick. Don't get too excited, that 1st is then traded to the old timers league for Stephan Richer and Patrick Poulin. Markov traded for Gauthier. Perez, A. Kost, Chippy, Price and Emelin traded for Brassard. Roenick UFA signed for 6 million/2yr, Dandenault given a 5 year extention, 25Mil contract.
Higgins Brassard Latendress
Samsonov Yashin Youppi
Richer Raphael Poulin
Lapierre Murray Roenick
Rivet Poulin (double shifted)
Schedule the parade for April.
I would make 29 trades. One to every team for their first round draft pick. With my god-like drafting abilities, there's no way we could lose.;)
Just one note to defend MR. Houle and his work as Hab GM.
It's important to go back in time to get the right picture.
At the time Houle was hired as GM, the Montreal Canadien team had been on a slow long downgrade in effort and talent. It was the general concensus at the time that the players had lost the pride of just being a HAB. The overall talent on the team was only average but it was felt that with more effort every night they could still be a good club.
In order to re-instill pride it took a x-hab with the passion of the "old habs". So Houle was appointed as GM. BUT things in the NHL had changed. Many players come from overseas or the States and had no CH tatooed on thier hearts. Much like today all over the NHL. The Players had discovered " big contracts" and suddenly had the money to live anywhere they wanted or to maintain thier homes in europe and retain thier own national pride and ties.
Playing for the Habs is no longer the be-all and end-all of the Hockey world.
The NHL had gone truly international and no matter what Houle did, he would run up against this new reality in the NHL. It's all about talent and contracts, and a bit less about heart and desire.
As soon as a player has a great year he demands a huge raise.
Every forward wants to play on the top line because he will get more points and get a bigger contract next time.
Is it good that the NHL has so many euro top talent players now? you bet, we get to see truly great players do thier thing in the NHL, but it HAS changed the NHL.
I'm waiting for Ferguson to rip of his mask and say something like " And I would have gotten away with it, expect for these meddling kids!"
I liked the board game version myself.
Great I get a 3!
Move my hockey puck three spaces.
Wow I landed on the Fire/Hire Coaches space!
Pick up card from the deck. It reads..
CONGRATULATIONS! You just fired your current coaching staff in mid-season! You cave into media pressure and hire Michel Bergeron as the new head coach. You then hire the old visiting team water boy from the 80's that looked like Relic as the assistant and Andre Racicot as the new goalie coach!
Advance to Fail to Make Playoff Space and collect $200
