Quote:

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today the club has signed free agent forward Martin Rucinsky.

“In Martin, we have added a veteran goal scorer with proven leadership skills to our line-up today,” said Davidson. “We are happy to have an opportunity to acquire a player of Martin’s ability and look forward to his second stint with the St. Louis Blues

Whew, getting a little nervous from the Jagr quotes he was gonna sign with us. Now we have one spot from the start for Immonen to get in camp.

Son of Steinbrenner 08-02-2006 08:12 PM

Wow..

I bet he didn't sign for $3.1 million..

Btw who is the sucker...

The Rangers for offering him that contract or Rucinsky for not taking it?

Not a huge loss if any..

Synergy27 08-02-2006 08:20 PM

While I think that Rucinsky was highly underrated by many on these boards, wthe Rangers acquired a better player in Shanahan. Good luck to Martin in St. Louis, who actually look like they might be a somewhat decent team this year.

Levitate 08-02-2006 08:21 PM

well, he's never really played great anywhere but in NY (at least lately) but he could be a good signing for them...

Rangers didn't really have room for him, but I bet JD has somethin to do with his signing

chatteaubowwow 08-02-2006 08:26 PM

We will see a lot of former rangers on the blues with JD in charge

Lundqvist102 08-02-2006 08:39 PM

Good luck Marty, can't honestly say i'll miss you that much

Captain11 08-02-2006 09:25 PM

good sign by the blues

HockeyBasedNYC 08-02-2006 09:27 PM

Another good "waiting" job done by the Rangers. It seemed in the beginning of the off-season Rucinsky was pretty much a lock to be resigned and the fact that he hasnt i think is great. I liked Rucinsky but the Rangers just got younger and saved some cap space in the process.

For a team like the Blues they get a proven veteran and thats great for them but as far as the Rangers are concerned there is a lot of movement in the ranks below and now the competition in camp becomes a bit more exciting.

i really appreciate what Rucinsky did for the team last year. Good signing by the Blues, hopefully Martin does very well over there.

The St.Louis Post Dispatch beat writer Jeremy Rutherford posts on the the paper's Blues forum.Marty Rucinsky got the two year deal he wanted from the Rangers from the Blues and a NTC for both seasons

Marty Rucinsky's deal:

Two years, $4.75 million

2006-07: $1.75 million
2007-08: $3 million

No-trade clause both years.

Im glad Sather did not offer the no trade contract. :yo: Why give a veteran like Rucinsky that :biglaugh: its not like he is Sakic, Forsberg or Leetch

jaywills1020 08-02-2006 09:44 PM

the guy scored a point per game for us and everyones ready to bash him. i thought he was a decent player for us and i wouldnt have minded having him play another year here

Speedtrials 08-02-2006 10:00 PM

I think this is good for everyone involved. The Rangers get younger, and cheaper, The Blues get a solid character veteran player, and Rucinsky gets the contract I think he has wanted for a while.

Exactly. I admire Marty for being a character guy, who always a) wanted to be here and b) performed well WHILE here, but after the purge in 2004, he's no longer the kind of guy we should be recruiting for the team. We will be looking for the Marty Rucinskys of the league again in about 3 years to become nice add on pieces to an established core of players.

Best of luck to him in StL. I see this as the first of many good-for-all-sides moves involving the Rangers and Blues over the next few years.

MisterUnspoken 08-02-2006 10:46 PM

As much as I like Rucinsky (and loved his middle finger to the Flyers) he had to go. Good luck to him in St. Louis. I hope he does really well there.

BigCanada77 08-02-2006 11:12 PM

Now all we need is Sykes to get signed by another team, and we're set.

Pizza 08-02-2006 11:37 PM

Adios Marty!! Best of luck. He's got a fan in JD.

Draft Guru 08-02-2006 11:42 PM

Good player, loved his attitude. Played very well for us when he was healthy. But the reality is he no longer had a spot on the team and he's getting up there in age.

Thanks Marty for a great year.

Son of Steinbrenner 08-03-2006 12:20 AM

This is a bad signing by JD. Rucinsky is the type of player that is going to get old FAST..

2 years with a no trade clause for Rucinsky could be the worst contract of the offseason...

Just terrible..

Hire Sather 08-03-2006 12:22 AM

I still don't understand the bashing on Rucinsky.

Say you want to play a younger player, fine. But don't knock Rucinsky, calling him utterly useless when he sports a PPG, and loved it here.

ECL 08-03-2006 12:28 AM

If we didn't sign Shanahan I'd of welcomed him back with open arms.

I thought Larry Pleau was the GM... if JD was going to be GM, why didn't they just fire the guy?

eco's bones 08-03-2006 02:52 AM

I liked Martin. I thought he played well for us. I liked his versatility. And he wanted to play for us when maybe a lot of other players didn't. When Shanahan signed with us though that more or less made a Rucinsky signing one that would block a younger player out and so it was time for him to go somewhere else and it looks as if he did pretty well anyway. I do wish him well though--except against us:) .
