What's even better is that he does it EVERY NIGHT...And he didn't play all that bad in the POs, probably one of the two best forwards with Betts.

Still, I hope he took some boxing lessons over the summer (Hell, I'd bring Darren Langdon back just for the reason to teach Holly how to hang on and pick his spots!) because there ain't too many players in the league that hit more and are hated more--by opposing fans AND players..He will be sought out alot...Great to finally have one of those on our side...

I miss hockey, haha

The good thing about Hollweg...

is you know what you're going to get each night from him. If he scores a goal, it's a bonus.

Yep. You know the guy is gonna give his all every single night, without fail...and I love it. You don't ever have to wonder if he has come to play (i.e. Marcel Hossa).

Watching that video makes me want the hockey season starting back up TOMORROW even more!!!

Hollweg ****** some people up!!!

You know what, I think the Rangers are gonna get a few more bonuses this year..I think after just just doing what he was told last year (hit, skate and don't make mistakes) as the Rangers youngest forward, he (and his linemates) will get a little bit more ice time and leeway this year...I think he has enough "skill" to score 10-12 goals...Unless he gets his head pounded in!

I think his offensive upside is a bit overlooked by outside observers. The kid has a lot of skill and he did some solid scoring on some not so offensive Medicine Hat Teams.

The kid probably has a top end 15 goals, 30 points if he can put it all together.

If he can become a 15 goal, 30 point aggitator in the Barnaby mold the rangers will have themselves something very nice. But so far his offense hasn't quite translated to the pro game. It is there though....

Fletch 08-03-2006 07:58 PM

I agree Edge and Larry...

I do think Hollweg has a bit more offensive talent than I give him credit for (did I just contradict myself?). But after I failed miserably in the analysis of Garth Murray, who seemed skilled with the puck and was often shooting the puck like crazy, I haven't put myself out there again on a grinder.

One of the better Ranger youtube videos IMO:

I love Hollweg, fantastic hitter and effort. His fighting i have been down on, but over the year he went from pretty bad to pretty solid. and got himself a few nice wins. beating Eager, Richards and getting the better of Janssen in the play offs. Adds some nice toughness and willingness to drop the gloves. Good middleweight to have.

They're tough to do that with. Murray and Hollweg are similar in the sense that they put up numbers in juniors but translating that at the pro level has been a challange.

The real difference between them is Murray was hurt by being hurt.

The offensive potential for Hollweg is really hard to say. I've watched him for years now and I can't even put a target on it.

He was seen as having untapped offensive potential in Juniors which was highlighted by him never really playing on a team that maximized that talent. At the pro level we haven't seen much of even that translate it, so no one really knows just how much potential is in there.

Put him on a team like Calgary in the WHL and I think he's a 80-90 point junior player, but he wasn't in Calgary so who really knows. At the very least I think Hollweg is a fourth line NHL'er, but I just feel there is more under the surface if he can just tap into it.

I totally agree with this.

A few years ago when I started following him, I spoke to some folks in MH, and they said he was actually a very talented player that would surprise people someday with his scoring. Then this year there were a number of comments to that effect by team mates and coaches.

Renney agrees with Edge on the 15 goal top end. It all sounds good to me. Love to see it happen for Ryan. He put our colors on and started bleeding on them right away:) You know he just loves being a Ranger.

Speaking of Calgary, how much fun would Dupont and Hollweg be on the same line:yo:

As a physical force I'd agree with you. As a hockey player I wouldn't.

I think that people vastly underestimate Hollweg's skill-set. The kid scored goals in juniors. IMO, he has the ability to become that 10-12 3rd line goal scorer you are referring to, Larry. He needs more opportunity to show it, but he has it. Heck, if people are extoling Hossa's virtue form what he played in the playoffs, so too should people notice Hollweg's playoff performance.

Could def. be interesting, especially if you throw a guy like Moore out there on the right side.
