Buying out players

i just wanted to make it clear to everyone about buying out players. it is not possible to do such a thing in the season, the rule book doesnt allow for it. so for everyone who hopes that BG will buy out audette or perreault, forget it. it's not going to happen during the season. either they get traded, put on the waivers or sent back to the minors, but not bought out. sorry for all of those in the desperate hope that it would happen. just hope for a trade.

It is most certainly possible.

Tampa Bay Lightning bought out Janne Laukkanen a couple of weeks ago.

Is it just me, or is that 'professor' smiley a little aggravating? :p

Audette will never be bought out during the season for his contrat is valid for next year also and since there is a hight probability for a lockout next year, no team will buy out a player with a multi-years contract during the 2003-2004 season.

Why not?

I would think the opposite. There may be a salary cap next year and the Habs would probably want to dump Audette's salary before that happens.

Thanks for the link.

And no, it's not just you. The 'professor' smiley really is aggravating. I'm telling you, it is! :teach:

It would cost 4M - whatever salary he's gotten so far. So around 3.5M to 4M to buy him out. Next year it would cost 1.99M to buy him out of his final year. I wouldn't buy him out just yet, that's a lot of money to throw away. But I would like to see him gone now, but it's a tough sell, to save 2M and a roster spot.

If there is a lockout next year (for the whole year), depending of the conditions of the new CB, the Habs may be in position to avoid to pay Audette for the last year of his contrat which is cheaper than buy him out...!!!

There is nothing in the CBA that prevents teams from buying players out during the season. Laukkanen received a buyout recently, as was mentioned previously.

The only thing preventing GMs from buying players out is male pride. If Gainey were to buy Audette out, he'd be telling the entire world that he made a mistake in giving Audette a four-year deal while with the Stars.

Don't worry Bob, we already know you screwed up. But two wrongs don't make a right...and keeping Audette because it would look bad is almost as bad as signing Audette in the first place.

Highly doubt that would happen.
