Indeed we did :)

I feel sorry for the Oilers, they lost Pronger, Spacek, Peca. I don't think Samso had the chance to adapt hiself to the team, but that's a lot of lost.

They added Lupul, Sykora, Smid (who will not play this year I think.)

Pronger/Spacek lost is a big hit on the powerplay, but Sykora will play on the point.

I wish they will make the playoffs this year, they have one of the best fanbase with us so they deserve to make it there.

their offense and goaltending at the start of this season will be much better then what they had at the start of last season. however their defense has become worse with the loss of pronger (spacek was a late season acquisition).

Samsonov > Dumont > Carter > Sykora

I think the defence took a big blow but offensevly they got much better IMO.

Lost Samsonov and peca, they got Sykora who can replace Samsonov points,Lupul is better then both so he is a bonus player on offence, they got their big guns signed for a few years,Hemsky,Horcoff and Pisani and they got Smid on D witch we don't know to expect from him.I like what the Oilers did

I also hope they make the playoffs...

As long as they don't knock out the Canucks.....

Lupul is better than Sammy?

Pakeha 08-11-2006 02:36 PM

I think the Oilers are a much better team at the beginning of this season than they were at the beginning of last - no question that they will make the playoffs.

I just read the thread on the Oilers forums

Some of them are expecting a 70 pts season for Sykora :shakehead

A other was sure that Sykora is so good that he could be sign somewhere else for 4M$ a year

I really would like to see the Oilers having success next year but the Oilers fan are overating Sykora a bit

The last time he had more than 70 pts was in 2000-2001 when he was with the Devils

hab 08-11-2006 02:56 PM

I can see the oil making a trade, they have an overabundance of quality forwards,

not to mention guys like scremp and poiliot, and seem to be quite thin and lacking

offensive talent on the blueline...

just an observation

AH 08-11-2006 02:59 PM

Ok so...

The Oilers with the following top two line wingers ... Hemsky, Smyth, Lupul, Torres with Mikhnov on the way, go out and add Sykora to the lineup. However, certain posters right in this thread dont criticize the move as excess.

Meanwhile, the same people say tha the Habs with Higgins, Ryder, Kovalev, Sammy with Kostitsyn on the way, should not bother adding Dumont because there is no place for him....

Am I missing something? :dunno:

Well as an Oiler fan I think Samsonov is better then Sykora. But if Sykora can add 20g+ and 50p+ I will be happy with this signing. Rumor has it he signed for 2.5, so he is cheaper as well.

He was mostly added to help the PP (Pronger is a huge loss there) and with shootout.

But I have to say I really like our FW line-up with Sykora in the mix and hopefully Mikhnov coming soon too. :D

You can shake your head all you want but Samsonov is highly overrated. Sure he makes cute moves, but they have never amounted to much. Just check his lifetime stats. Has never reached a point per game.

Lupul is already a better player than Sammy and is five years younger.

Do your homework.

I don't know about you but I'd say Lupul is better. Sure Samsonov is faster and more proven, but Lupul is a 22 year old 30 goal scorer who potted 9 in the playoffs. He can also play any forward position. He's only going to get better

Ok I'll do my homework

Joffrey Lupul 0,56 pt per game

NHL 156 games 41 goals 46 passes 87 pts plus/minus -19

Seigei Samsonov 0,74 pt per game

NHL 533 games 169 goals 223 passes 392 pts plus/minus rating +41

Lupul should be a better play than Samsonov in the years to come. But for now, I don't think he is.
