Which source do you trust most?

In today's internet world and all sports radio stations trying to fill time, it is not difficult to find a load of rumours.

Obviously, the degree of credibility varies from one source to the other.

My questions is, which source do you trust the most?

Personally, I really put alot of stock in TSN's rumours. I think they are really tapped in especially Bob McKenzie.

On the other hand, Eklund was someone I admittedly enjoyed during the lockout but I just tend to roll my eyes the more I see his stuff.

Basically, TSN is THE SOURCE for me.

Thoughts??

TSN is probebly the best because they don't post and BS. RDS is ok most of the time but they have jumped the gun a bit on some stories. Eklund and the Code aren't really sources if you ask me. They all but reliable.

If Bob McKenzie ever says anything, I will believe it. He has class and I have complete respect for his entire approach to his job and his profession. That is EXTREMELY rare in the world of sports journalism in my experience.

Even many of the other professional beat writers or commentators often find a strange need to "sell papers" by either fabricating "rumours" or by couching their own speculations or desires in wording that makes it seem as if they were "rumours" (Garrioch, Brooks, Strachan being among the worst such big names, off the top of my head).

Personally, if it's not BM or an NHL GM or other team representative speaking directly, I take it as just being somebody's own idea, no matter how they phrase it. Eklund and the blogger gang are no different than a poster on this board or a "respected" sports journalist of the ilk mentioned above or a PJ Stock-esque radio jock as far as I'm concerned. It's all the same. Fluff as "rumours", but still often worthy of discussion as "proposals"/"fantasies" just because, hey, it's hockey-and-Habs-related.

Agreed 100%
TSN is it for me as well because they don't post garbage. They wait until they have solid evidence before making it news. Personnaly, I couldn't care less about rumors from anyone... They're just too many going around and most never happen anyways. Funny how a blogger claim to be valid when he gets 1 out 20 rumors right. That's just a brutal average!

Dutchy 08-18-2006 01:56 PM

The 2 Bobs:

Bob McKenzie & Bob Gainey

For those who speak french I think Ron Fournier is good source. He doesn't come up very often with rumors and hearsays but when he does you can take it to the bank.

Very well put as usual, BG

McKenzie's style is so refreshing. When there is a rumour making the rounds, Bob only endorses it if he has the evidence to back it up rather than going for the automatic splash.

And his professionalism seems to be contageous with the TSN staff when it comes to hockey.

Dutchy 08-18-2006 01:59 PM

French speaking: François Gagnon. Second to no one, IMHO.

Habsfan18 08-18-2006 02:00 PM

TSN, by far.

znk 08-18-2006 02:05 PM

Well indeed TSN (Bob Mckenzie) is by fare the most reliable source but they tend to give out rumours when they are sure or mostly sure it will happen because they are more in the News buisness then in the Rumour buisness. But they dont give out alot of stuff.
That being said I still read info from any other sources I can find just to get my juices flowing. I dont trust them.....but that's not the point.

davenash 08-18-2006 02:06 PM

I agree with pretty much what Blind Gardien wrote. To me, BM is the easily the best source when it comes to hockey. TSN.CA is basically the only site I trust when it comes to hockey news/rumors.

I need to point out that RDS has done a really bad job in the last couple of years. I still like their Canadiens coverage but when it comes to hockey speculation, I don't trust them at all. I don't even visit their website anymore, as a matter of fact.

I totally understand what you're saying.

I have to admit, I enjoy the odd rumour "to get my juices flowing" whether its a blogger or someone with more credibility. But lately, (and it might just be me), it seems like there has been a lot of overkill with these rumours.

I cant wait for McKenzie to get back to work :)

I've had more than my dose of bloggers for the time being.

Didn't RDS say we signed Miroslav Satan last offseason?

CH Wizard 08-18-2006 02:17 PM

NO QUESTION

It's TSN, with Bob Mackenzie and the recent addition of Darren Dreger, TSN is virutally unstoppable in connections throughout the NHL.

didouche 08-18-2006 02:33 PM

BOB and Pierre TSN rocks :yo:

Pat 08-18-2006 02:33 PM

pretty much TSN for me too, although they're a little to pro-Leafs if you ask me...but I can live with it ;)

Sportsnet is even worse. i believe most of their "hockey experts" were former Leafs.

Bob Bastards 08-18-2006 03:27 PM

The only source I trust is Bob Gainey.

The rest is only chit-chat and BS talk...

Dwight 08-18-2006 03:37 PM

BM or GM
