just moved to richmond, va. wondering if anyone knows where theres pickup roller hockey around here. ive never played ice before but any information on that as well would be appreciated.

I would recommend finding some public skates before jumping right into pickup.

as far as roller, ive played in leagues and pick up for more than 5 years...ice on the other hand yeah, i was just saying if i have to switch to be able to play i will but id prefer roller rinks around the area if anyone knows of one.

I used to live in Richmond and here is some info.

Roller:
All American Skate and Sports Center, Richmond. Richard and Cynthia Kent. Rink (804) 233-7215; office, day: (804) 744-9636
stay away from the other rinks unless you like playing on a wood floor with plastic nets.

Ice:

I've played at both Ice Rinks and they are about the same.

Richmond has a decent amount of ice hockey. There are at least 5 ice pads including the one outdoor rink. Roller is def around but i dont know about pick up.

One place:

Cavalier Family Skating Ctr
4902 Williamsburg Rd
(804) 652-1816

they have pick up for both youth and adult but no skate and shoot (stick time)

PM me and I'll give you the email of a guy who organises 2 games of ice a week (friday in van and saturday in burnaby) and a game of roller in Langley either weekly or Bi-weekly. It's clean hockey with a good mix of guys playing at different levels and is organised very well. It's $15 for Ice and $12 for Roller with your choice of a beer or gatorade for after the game and is usually 2 hours (but you can usually stay on after since no one goes on after us).

Edit: Oops, sorry, thought that said richmond, bc, not virgina.
