Habs @ Canucks - November 18th, 2003 - TIME TO STAY UP LATE!

The Montreal Canadiens, will face the dynamic Vancouver Canucks, and in doing so will look to jump to five hundred on the season, and 2-1 on their five-game road swing. The biggest question will be not only how the Habs will handle the forceful Canucks, but who will be doing that stopping. Talented youngsters Michael Ryder and Marcel Hossa received an undeserved benching Saturday night, in favour of a few high priced veterans. It would be a good bet to see the robust Ryder and the smooth skating Hossa back in Tuesday night's line-up. The Canucks top trio of Markus Naslund, Todd Bertuzzi, and Brendan Morrison have combined for 2 points in the last 3 games, while Morrison has been held off of the score sheet for five straight. Speaking of slumps, Habs star Richard Zednik will have to kickstart his heart in order for the CH to but up a reasonable fight.

Habs Game Thoughts
  • Will Montreal Head Coach Claude Julien create a defensive oriented line to throw out against the 'Nucks top unit?
  • Who will win the battle of the Newfoundland Rookies, Ryder or King?
  • Anyone take University Math? Can you tell us how long it's been since #20 scored a goal for the Habs
  • Speaking of line-up changes, do you think Ron Hainsey and Marcel Hossa learned a fair ammount from section 319 in the Corel Centre?
  • Again thinking of the Montreal line-up, who do you expect will sit this game out?

Excellent game post as usual, jl.

I'm going to predict a 4-1 win for Montreal. I think the win over Ottawa may just be the fire under the ass the canadiens need to leave their scoring slump.

ping 11-17-2003 02:16 PM

Nice post...it's Sportsnet Pacific btw. Also, the game will feature the original jerseys again (First time for the Canucks this year).
The is a must win for the Canucks after back to back overtime losses against Philly and Boston (plus a lose before that to the Wild). Keep an eye on Jason King and the Sedins. King's been on fire lately and has been on a goal a game pace for the past 7 games or so.
I'll post an obviously biased prediction of 5-2 Canucks with goals by Naslund, King x2, Linden, and Ohlund for the Canucks. Riberio and Perrault notching the Canadiens goals.

Have certain fans stopped booing Brisbois after Gainey's outburst earlier this season?

Habs are really going to be in tough, the Canucks are an elite team... let's just hope the Habs elevate their game and come out with a big effort... 3-3 Tie, Theo comes up big again.

Yes.

Though there were still a few who weren't booing the Breezer before that.

Vintage jerseys for the CANUCKS???? ugh...

Howie Morenz 11-17-2003 03:38 PM

Hopefully we will see Hossa and Ryder re-inserted in the lineup. C'mon Claude let the kids play.

Well, we "won" last game we will surely keep our dynamic lines-up...

Great game thread as usual jl. Keep up the excellent work, it makes them that much more enjoyable.

I also agree that Hossa and Ryder shouldn't be left out of the lineup for a second straight game. They didn't deserve it in the first place, at least not more than a lot of vets, especially Zednik who looks like if someone has been slipping Prozac in his moring cofee every day since the begining of the season. Anyway even with the win, last game's lineup was outclassed rather badly so there's absolutely no point in keeping the exact same line combinaisons (especially Juneau on the 1st line, it should be Bulis instead).

why break a winning formula? Does not make sense to me

oli500 11-17-2003 07:34 PM

Lets hope dan cloutier has one of his bad nights tomorow. Again specials team will play an important role in this game and mtl cant offord faling behind by two goals cause their toast. Imo mtl going to need at least 2 goals on the pp if they want to win. Btw im going to the odd in kitchener on vriday. Lockee and the ottawa 67 are coming to town. Should be a good game. All keep a close look on lockee.

Just for the rather simple fact that this is all but a winning formula. They were outplayed badly by the Sens with that lineup. It was a horrible showing. Theodore won the game all by himself, with a little help from Bulis. This win was an anomaly. Don't expect us to win most of our games by playing like we did in that game, because it won't happen. I'm not saying to change the lines inside out once again, but tweaking IS necessary. Sundstrom looked rather weak on the 4th line and Juneau looked out of place on the 1st, so those things should be taking care of.

VAN-HAB 11-17-2003 08:02 PM

4-1 Canucks

I hope you were being sarcastic. Totally outplayed + lucky bounce + 20 guys riding on the back of a goalie who squeaks out the win = "winning formula"?

Whatever the lineups are, I have a hunch (or hope) that Ryder will be back and have an extra step to his game. 3-2 Habs!!

Incidentally, there were quite a few posters here who were in favor of signing Steve Thomas. I wasn't particularly in favor of the idea (unless Audette would go) and instead wanted Oates (especially when Saku was still hurt). But now neither are available, and neither is Wiemer whom I've always been an advocate of. Just needed to cry.

That was the nicest post to look at i've ever seen, great job

we absouletly have to cscore first, if we do then we'll win 3 - 1

If the nucks score first it i'll be a 5 - 2 win for vancouver

who shoul sit for the habs tonight, i hope hainsey or ryder are not scratches

EquabaleAce 11-18-2003 02:54 AM

Sorry bout the frequent posts, but i just thought;
if darren langdon is in the lineup tonight does anyone think he'll scrap with any of his former mates?

Darz 11-18-2003 03:23 AM

Hopefully the game will be decided by the better goaltender. I predict the habs get a first period lead and neve look back.

Habs-3 Canucks-2

This Hab fan will be at the game!

5-3 Nucks, though, here's hoping to a win.

I'll drink a few for you all!

They quoted him in Lapresse this morning, and he said that he really didn't think he would drop the gloves. It would just feel to weird for him to fight against his friends.

We'll see how the game turns out.

Capitano 11-18-2003 06:28 AM

I had a dream that Montreal wins this game 5-2 or something like that. The only bad part was that Koivu was still kept off of the scoresheet. Here's hoping...

Crawford thinks the vintage jerseys will give the team that "extra jump" b/c the blue colour is the same colour as "Viagra". :joker:
