Habs: 23 or 24 Stanley cups?

24 right?

Then why do I keep seing it listed as 23 cups... what gives?

KBstyle 10-05-2006 04:45 PM

24 like the beer case :D

MathMan 10-05-2006 04:46 PM

I *think* it's 24 Cups and 23 NHL championships, as the Habs won one Cup before there was a NHL.

Kafka 10-05-2006 04:50 PM

They won their 23rd in 1986 (my stupid memory trick is that they one their 23rd with Bob Gainey (no.23) on the roster), 24th in 1993.

Wow, I am glad I am not a Leaf fan.

ohiohabsfan 10-05-2006 04:50 PM

Right...it makes no sense.

The beer hat has 23 Stanley Cups on it. Which is wrong. The Habs have 24.

For some reason since the first one is non-NHL, people don't seem to give us credit for it.

It was still a Stanley Cup win, giving the Habs 24 Cups.

To anybody who says 23 I say this: Go to the Bell Centre and count the banners yourself.

Bring an abacus if necessary.

tinyzombies 10-05-2006 05:30 PM

The Canadiens won their first Cup in the NHA, a professional league that existed before the NHL. The Canadiens are older than the NHL.

VanNistelrooy 10-05-2006 06:55 PM

The NHL FEARS the Canadiens.

JMMR 10-05-2006 06:59 PM
