Saturday's weather

Last report I heard was a high of -7, if that's too cold for any of you guys with tix just let me know.

Thx in advance. ;)

dawgbone 11-20-2003 05:00 PM

I heard -9 was the high, with a 30% P.O.P.

sounds like fun hockey weather.

This shouldn't be bad at all... I mean we all talk about how we played in this weather and we were fine, and look at what they have...

1). Boards and Glass which will cut down on the wind.

2). Lines which will allow them to stay warm

3). Heaters on the bench... for some reason, my parents never let me take the habatchi onto the pond, not sure why though????

Oi'll say! 11-20-2003 05:05 PM

30% chance of precipitation is ok, I think that a little bit of snow would be waayyy cool. Just not so much that the game is in jeopardy or the ice gets slow.

Fayne Gretzky 11-20-2003 06:42 PM

They said during the game that the players would be wearing heating packs or something, and that there may actually be to much heat. Theyre wearing "special underwear" too :)

Heh I'm good too.. I'm making the trip from Calgary and I'm definitely bringing a sleeping bag or two to protect me from the snow.. :)

For Anybody who has ever been in Commonwealth on a colder day knows how cold it can get in there. I remember an Esks/ Bombers game from a few years ago in late October, It was almost unbarable in the lower bowl. I'm not complaining though, Im going and Im gonna be ready. for anyone else going to the game, here is a quick rundown of what Im gonna use as shelter.

Tight briefs with boxers on top
long johns with jogging pants on top
baggy gangster joggers as the final lower layer.
Wife beater with a skin tight long sleeve shirt
a light wool sweater under a nice looking UofA Bears hoodie
My Oils third jersey with a winter jacket on top
the mandatory Oilers touque and some snug mitts
doubling up on the socks, regular whites with woolies ontop.

and that my friends is how this guy is staying warm. I just hope I dont have to go pee during the game.

dawgbone 11-21-2003 03:13 AM

To answer a few questions...

1). The special underwear they use is called underarmour... great stuff. It has 2 layers, one that soaks up the sweat, and the other that insulates you. I use it for field lacrosse in the fall all the time.

2). The wind is apparantly 10km/h from the south.

Oi'll say! 11-22-2003 06:26 AM

Well, what's the weather doin' now guys?

Goil 11-22-2003 06:30 AM

Dont ask! It was -23 when I got up this morning... It's supposed to warm up over night tonight. Please let that wind bring in the warm system ahead of schedule. It would be amazing if it warmed up to -5 by 6.00 or 7.00. Chances of that happening...SLIM.

Warm wind? The hockey gods are bringing up a chinook?

 Pray to the Hockey Gods

As of 10 am at the Edm Int Airport it was -26 with 11 km/h winds, it's supposed to get up to -16 in the afternoon, tapering off to -20 in the evening.

It's -21 in Calgary right now so there won't be any chinook action helping out, it's all up to the sun.

Will they play at -20? I doubt it.

The puck will be like a rock and the glass will probably be very fragile around the boards.

Ouch! I have been counting on somewhere in the mid -teens, not -20.

But I think they will play at -20, at the start. So it better come up a bit more. I have great seats and wouldn't want any changes.

As a bonus, it is almost always warmer downtown than it is at the airport. Those few degrees, plus the low wind, may leave us with some hockey. I've played quite a few times in this kind of weather - it's really not that much of a difference between -15 and -20 (but then I've never gotten used to playing in places as warm as the Colosseum).

Oi'll say! 11-22-2003 08:30 AM

I played a lot of outdoor hockey as a kid but I never really paid attention to the temperature in degrees, I couldn't say how cold it was. I know I've never done it at -30, that's the cutoff for me between staying in and voluntarily going out, but whether or not I've played at -20, -25 :dunno: .

I had my heart set on -7 to -12 or so for this game, but as long as they still play I'm happy.

Hairball 11-22-2003 08:39 AM

Chanel 10 currently says -22 with a high of -16 and sun. It's gonna be a cold one people. It looks like it's gonna warm up to -1 tomorrow and be overcast. Hmpf. Anyway, with that, I'm off. I'm going early because the gates open at 12:00 and I'm too excited to stay at home with all of these clothes on. So have fun, stay warm, and here's to the Oilers winning two games in one day! See you there.

nucks2001 11-22-2003 08:59 AM

If they postpone the game.. since the weather looks perfect for tomorrow they may just move the game back a day but still play outdoors

The classic game will takes place as scheduled, but the regular game will be a gametime decision.

gb701 11-22-2003 10:42 AM

I am on my way out the door - it is -17 here now, sunny and no wind...

should be fine with many layers of clothing on plus access to the pavilion to meet the alumni.

Go Oil!
