OT - Best Goaltender tandem

Saw this poll on TSN last night, and was just curious to know what you guys thought?

AlexandreTheNotSoGreat 10-12-2006 10:29 AM

Don't know why they bothered even asking this question last night during a Habs game. I choose the San Jose duo myself, although in an important poll like last night, i'd choose the Montreal one. I'm hardcore.

It would be interesting to post this same poll on the boards of all four teams involved and see what the responses are like.

IcE ColD 10-12-2006 10:31 AM

Too tough to answer right now. I'd wait a whole month before giving an answer... not enough games played yet.

coolguy21415 10-12-2006 10:38 AM

I saw the results after the first period, it was 85% Huet-Aebischer. I guess the homers came out to vote. I would hardly consider Buffalo as a tandem, anyway. Regardless, I would probably rate San Jose's tandem ahead of our own, and Anaheim's has the potential to be better, too.

Marksman 10-12-2006 10:40 AM

I'd take Anaheim team of goalies first, because both of their goalies have been tested in 34-35 shot matches. San Jose goes second, because Nabokov had an easy shutout. Then maybe Montreal and Buffalo.

Whitesnake 10-12-2006 10:45 AM

San Jose no question, followed by Buffalo, Habs and Anaheim. I don't see any question marks about Toskala, Nabokov, Miller and Biron. All 4 would be capable of being a starter on any team for 60 games minimum. Can't say the same for Huet, Aebisher, Bryzgalov and even Gigučre.....at least not yet and not to the first 4 guys extend.....

Everybody was ready to trade Aebisher to make some room for Danis and then we have the best duo.....The best polls are always the one that doesn't include your local players...obviously. Even Habs fans had the courage to place Raycroft has the 2nd surprise of the beginning of the year......by chance Latendresse's name wasn't in it.....;)

voted for SJ

since Huet+Abby lost the poll VS Lundqvist+Weekes on the "polls and petitions" boards, I don't think we'd win against SJ, ANA, or BUF either...

loudi94 10-12-2006 11:01 AM

Kiprusoff and McLennan. No question. Actually, Kiprusoff and whoever happens to be the backup.

not so sure about that...calgary hasnt been too hot of late

and let's not forget the fact that the reason Kipper was so "hot" was because he played behind a stellar defense.

since CAL changed coach, they're playing a new kind of game and this exposes kipper a lot more then he ever was...

Tuggy 10-12-2006 11:34 AM

Sharks.

that's a dumb poll. Weekes is a backup, clearly. The Rangers do not have a goalie tandem

terreur 10-12-2006 01:26 PM

I'd take Miller and Biron, just because I think Miller is the best goalie out of the 8.

Poochie_D 10-12-2006 01:34 PM

Toskala and Nabokov. Huet and Aebischer is very solid as well though.

JMMR 10-12-2006 01:37 PM

took the Ducks because they have come the closest to the cup!

I'd counter that with Lehtonen/Hedberg.:)

A tandem is when you have 2 number 1 goalies. Kiprusoff is clearly the number 1 goalie in CGY just like Miller is the clear cut number 1 in buffalo (so they shouldn't be up there imo).

Are you sure that's what tandem means? I think you just made that up.:p:

Ryan Miller & Martin Biron

Bryzga lol* 10-12-2006 06:44 PM

Ryan Miller & Martin Biron seems like the clear number 1 choice.

I love Montreal's duo, but I consider Biron a better goaltender than Abby.

And Miller a better goaltender than Huet... And by far !

Biggsy 10-12-2006 07:23 PM

I will make that decision in a month or 2 hard to say 2 weeks

Mr. Hab 10-12-2006 08:41 PM

Since we have Yann Danis and Carey Price...

I'd choose Miller/Biron as #1
Huet/Aebischer as #2 (flip it to #1 if either one of Huet/Abby can go as far as Miller in playoffs or further...with our team we can...:) :handclap: :) ).
Bryzgalov/Giguere as #3
Toskala/Nabokov as #4

---------------- --------------

If Kiprussof and McLennan are goalies 1a, 1b, then...
Theo and Budar (wrong spelling) are goalies 1a, 1b also (or 1b & 1b!!:p: , or one is 1b, the other is #2:p: :propeller :p:).

Other note: Kiprusoff is an awesome star goalie, BUT...McLennan is there to play 10-15 games (Max.). IMO McLennan must be glad just to be in the NHL, just like Emery, ok...no more bashing for tonight , I'm being absolutely rude!!:p:
