Why I love Marc-Andre Bergeron

With all of the 'rumours' about Comrie being offered to the Flyers for their 'Can't Miss' defensive prospect Joni Pitkanen, I personally failed to notice our 5'10" lighting in a bottle.

=======GP=G==A==P==+/-==PIM==PP
Pitkanen 17 - 2 - 7 - 9 - 10 - 12 - 1
Bergeron 15 - 3 - 6 - 9 - 5 - 14 - 1

Now i'm not suggesting that Bergeron will ever become the player that Pitkanen is projected to be, but is it possible that Bergeron has a higher ceiling than we all expect?

Thoughts?

i think the difference is what pitkanen is expected to bring in terms of defensive ability.... bergy may get 40-50 points, but i dont think he'll ever be a defensive standout who can play 25+ mins/game like pitkanen is expected to do

I'm not surprised that he's doing very well, I had a whole series of threads touting him last season b4 his first call-up. I'm glad that the #'s are adding up for him and I hope he keeps the same style of play throughout his career, he is a treat to watch.

The old adage that comes to mind when I watch Bergie play - "It's not the size of the Dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog". ;)

WAYYYYYYYY too early to tell if you ask me. MA Bergeron has really stepped it up but he has made some horrible defensively blunders here and there. I want to say that he will be a top four some day but it remains to be seen. As of now, i think he will be a good powerplay specialist. If he evolves into a Vishnovsky or a Rafalski...I will be the very first person to write Kevin Lowe a letter for being one of hockeys greatest GM's.

Keep in mind that Bergeron is getting a boatload of PP time and is essentially our ownly offensive d-man besides Staios and Brewer.. that is definitely helping to inflate his stats a bit. On the other hand, he's looked very good so far this season and is definitely making a lot of teams wish they had of at least used an 8th rounder on him..

our only offensive Dman, besides Brew/Staios? That means he is one of three, and that 50% of our D are offensive...meaning... you get the point, If you meant to say, he is our only purely offensive Dman, that is another story..although i think he plays fine in the defensive end as well...

His two points on Thursday were his first PP points of the season
