Goalie Exercises/Drills sites?
Hey guys, a question.

My friend is learning how to be a goalie. He has very good raw reflexes and stuff, but he doesn't know where exactly to start in terms of drills, exercises, and positioning. Do you guys know of any online sites or resources that he can use?

Thanks loads!

Dryland work outs: Speed and agility will be primary focus followed by Core and flexibility.

Brad appletons guide to stretching: Its a huge read but if the time is spent learning this from start to finish its a HUGE help in making the most of your stetching.

About proprioception/muscle memory:

Hockeylab:japan for a few good articles:

Mind The Net(mtng oaltending) articles:

Goalie Doctor @ The Goalie Store:

Vaughn Hockey resources page:

Goaliepro (Jukka Ropponen) be sure to check the resources on both english and Finnish versions of the site. MV RESURSSITS for the finnish resources tab. Not all are on both versions of the site.

GDI(goalie development Institute) THE GOALIE NEWS is hands down the best resource for ANY goalie. best 26 US bucks you can spend for a self development subscription. Look near top center for its link.

Many goaltending PDF and JPG downloads that are FTC and show the value of a subscription to THE GOALIE NEWS. See GOALIE RESOURCES table. All downloads are clean and safe. Its my site so rest assured...no .exe files.

Goalie Academy Articles:

If he has any VERY specific skill or technique(like whats in my tips section at hawksice.com) related question drop me a PM and I will see what I can dig up. Also check the list of Goalie related BB's out there. There is a ton of great info to be gotten from them. KAZ GOALTENDING BB has a pretty good drills and skills section and the group there is VERY friendly.

one tip for your buddy....for depth in the net..DO NOT watch NHL goalies and follow their lead. These guys are world class and have the speed/reflexes to match. Chances are, if he/she is going to drop back onto or near the goal line the puck is going to go in the net. If you want to work with him on positioning angles try a set up like this to demonstrate for him...ropes are great visual tools!

Movement drills: Old stand by basic Y, X, V and U plus the crease shuffle.

Learn to be on these spots when the puck is anywhere outside the hash mark distance.....All he has to do is be on line between the puck and center of the net at goal line. These would coincide with the crease shuffle drill. Same number of shuffles going right to left as you would left to right!

Is there other site? I'm a goalie coach and I want to be ready for the next season. I would like to have more drills for kids of 12-13 years old.

not drills.. but the butterfly challenge on the goalie crease is something that all serious goalies should take a stab at. i increased my toe to toe butterfly measurements of 34 inches to 36.5" after a month of the excercise

The butterfly challenge is from Maria Mountain. She has a great website loaded with drills and exercises
