Greatest Games In The History Of Your Memory

I was thinking. "What's the best game I've ever seen played before?". There's so many I can remember that I can't remember which was best. In recent time. (post Montreal's cup season to Now)

I remember seeing a game when I was a kid. Montreal vs Buffalo. It was a 3-3 game. Buffalo got a goal with literally .1 seconds left. They checked replay. Like 1mm over the line with like 0.1s left. They won. I must say it was probably one of Buffalo's better games.

If you can think of any games with an exciting fight, victory, loss or anything like that. Just something unique to the game itself. Please post.

I'll add more crazy game descriptions after I read some of yours.

Attending live?

For sheer excitement factor, game 6 at home of the Boston-Montreal series 3 years back. Down 3-1, the Habs had just tied the series 3-3, and we all know what happened after. The crowd was just wild that night.

I remember that game with the huge brawl between Phili and the Habs.

Before the game even started. Hextall jump on the back oF Chelios or something. That game strated crazy and stayed crazy the all time.

:yo:

Attending live would have to be in march last year, when Habs destroyed leafs back to back, but the greatest moment of the weekend was when Kovalev ran over tucker :handclap:

Not attended any of these games, but a few that stick out in my mind:

Habs - Bruins: Game 3, 2002
It was only Sakus 6th game back, he wasn't close to 100% game shape and for the first playoff game in Montreal in years, he dominated. 1 goal and 3 assists. It is a classic to me. We start well and take the lead, then everything collapses in the 2nd. Cue the giant 3rd period comeback. And the Bruins were the top seeds as well. Awesome game, one of my favourites. And to see Saku so happy was a joy.

Leafs - Blues: regular season, 2000 (i think)
The comeback game. Leafs were thrashing the Blues 5-0 with 15 minutes left in the 3rd. Blues won 6-5 in OT. That was one of the most insane turnarounds I've ever seen in any sport. And it was against the Leafs. Well worth watching. I wonder if its on Google now? I hope so, I'd love to see it again.

Avalanche - Devils: Game 7 of the Finals, 2001
The energy of the first half of the game (as someone supporting the Avs) was incredible. And Joe Sakics goal through the legs of Stevens and into the top corner of the net :amazed: What a shot. The 2nd half of the game started me thinking if the Avs could hold on. Great to see Bourque win his cup and Sakic handing it straight to him, memorable moment without doubt.

USSR vs Mtl, new years eve game.
3-3 tie in the 70's
The BIG three, Dryden, Lafleur Lamaire Shutt and the rest of the boys.
The BIG RED MACHINE, Kharlamov,Yakoshev, Tretiak and the rest of those boys.

Best single hockey game I ever saw.

Coming out of that game was, the statement the Bob Gainey was the best overall Hockey player I ever saw, said by the USSR coach, V. Tikonov.

Dallas vs Edmonton playoffs in 1998 or 1999.. Cujo's goaltending display was the best I had ever seen, and the 8th place Oilers defeated the Cup favorites Stars in 6 or 7 games. His goaltending was breathtaking to say the least..

Good Friday brawl in 1984. Not the best played game, but lots of drama.

Any Oilers-Flames playoff game in the mid-80s.

Montreal-Boston, game 6 in 2002.

Montreal-Boston, game 5 in 2004.

Guy Lafleur's return to Montreal as a Ranger, where he scored a couple goals.

Any game with Gretzky visiting Montreal in the 80s ( I went to a couple and even watching their warmup was fun).

Detroit-Colorado played a couple doozies. Very skilled, excellent systems, fast-paced, rugged. Amongst the best hockey the NHL has ever seen.

Rangers-Canucks series in 1994.

Rangers-Devils in 1994, game 6 and 7.

Any Montreal game from the 1993 Cup run. Awesome....

I have a friend who was at that game. Said he was sitting next to this family that had 2 young kids. 1 kid kept falling asleep and the other was really into the game, just loving it. At the 2nd intermission the parents decided to leave, thinking the game was over, to put the youngest to bed. The older one started to throw a fit because he wanted to stay and see the end of the game. He was a leafs fan so good thing he didn't.

Game 3 of the 2004 first round against Boston. Habs won it 3-2 I think. I was in the building, it was awesome. My voice sounded weird the next day, too much screaming...

Best live:

1) Game 6, 2004 playoffs - Habs defeat Bruins
2) 2006 - Habs beat Leafs in game two of a home-and-away series
3) Sometime around 1990: Habs beat Leafs in Maple Leaf Gardens 11-3

Best ever:

Habs over Kings in Game 2 of Stanley Cup Finals, 1993. Desjardins pots 3, including OT winner.

I was there too..simply amazing the crowd that night.
Even for hours after the game outside the bell centre. It was like we had already won the series, I was walking around with a 6 iron and screaming "Boston s'en va a golf, Boston's going golfing."

game 7...was SICK!!
Cujo robbed Nieuwendyk in OT when he had an open net leading to Todd Marchant breaking down the wing and putting home for the series clinching goal.

Best series I've seen was whent he habs were down 3-1 vs BOS and came back to win the series 4-3.

Worst series I've ever seen is Habs vs Carolina where we were up 2-0, and the habs lost the series 4-2.

A) They nearly blinded our captain which is uncool.
B) I hate carolina. (Aren't they really the winnipeg jets? I wanted the Jets to stay a franchise)

Attended Live?

Canada Vs. USA World Cup 2004: Mario going after Konowalchuk because he ran down Brodeur. One of the greatest moments in Super Mario's career that took place in his hometown. We were going nuts!

Canadiens vs. Bruins Game 3 2004 Playoffs: Kovalev wakes up and we've got ourselves a series...

Habs vs. Avs 2 weeks ago: One of the best regular season games this century.

On TV:

Russia vs. USA Salt Lake City 2002: A 3-3 tie and I still think this is the best game I've ever seen. The crowd was WILD and the action was non-stop.

Worst: I was there when McLaren decapitated Zednik and when Williams nearly-blinded Saku. These were not good memories...

Galchenyuk x 27 11-02-2006 12:19 PM

- Habs - Kings ...game 2 1993 Finals
- Islanders vs Penguins when the Isles knocked off the 2 time defending champs in 93
- Senators vs Habs last season, Habs down 3-0 in teh second when Kovalev went crazy, 4-3 habs win in OT
- Canadiens vs Hurricanes game 2 of 2006 playoffs when Ryder poted the winner..never had so much fun watching a hockey game on tv. (was at la cage aux sports on langelier and jean talon, got absolutly wasted and ended up in a fight with some Theodore fan who was booing Huet)

FinnHab 11-02-2006 12:42 PM

Sorry. Rushed that message. (had to do some actual work.. lol)

But yeah, meant captain, really tired today.

Btw. True say about the jets.

J-D 11-02-2006 10:41 PM

A 3-3 tie Nordiques vs Bruins.

Quebec goalie Ron Tugnutt makes 73 saves and stones Ray Bourque several times in OT.

OMG The Nordiques sucked so much in the late 80s/early 90s!
