I can't give Pock a grade either since he got the shaft. Though I'm sure if he'd played all the games he'd be where Malik is more than likely.

I'll give Pock an incomplete. Wish we could see more of him and much, much less of that big oaf, Marek.

This looks good, except it is real close right now between Tyutin and Ward.

One thing that must be considered...

is the role each defenseman plays when assigning a grade. For instance, if you saw Pock for 22 minutes and going against top lines, you wouldn't want to see him back for the second game; that's where Rozsival and Malik are often. They're out of their role, but who else should play there? The inconsistent Tyutin? Ozo? Rachunek? In a way, we're comparing apples and oranges here, so personally, I'm abstaining from ranking the defensemen, but will just say there's no competent top pair group, and the others have been inconsistent through the first 13 games.

CM Lundqvist 11-07-2006 07:15 PM

1. Tyutin = 6
2. Ward = 6
3. Pock = 5
4. Rachunek = 5
5. Ozolinsh = 4
6. Kasparaitis = 3
7. Malik = 3
8. Normand Rochefort = 2
9. Rozsival = 0

Tyutin and Ward do go against the other teams top lines though....not every game but its say its 50/50 between them and Malik/Rozsival.

And the word Inconsistent should be way ahead of Malik and Rozsvial before Tyutin...this isn't Tyutin's rookie season and has been pretty far from inconsistent. Him and Ward have been very consistent.

IanB 11-07-2006 07:34 PM

Tyutin
Ward
Ozolinsh
Rachunek
Malik
Kasparaitis
Roszival

Fletch 11-07-2006 07:39 PM

I'd disagree...

on Tyutin's inconsistency - less than last season, but he still have lapses each game (inlcuding the last game which led to the tying goal and enabled the Sabres to get the winning goal). I'm not sure 50/50's the right number, but he does go against top lines on occasion. The comment was meant more towards people who think Pock should be in instead of Malik, or Rachunek or Ozo. I do believe that Malik has been this team's worst defenseman this season, taking everything into consideration, and oddly enough, I wouldn't be surprised if he was a plus.

All are sub-par with only Tyutin and Ward anything close to what a D man should look like in the NHL
