If you plan on posting here about the Preds realize we aren't only poor losers we are poor winners. Please refer to recent opponents boards on our behavoir- the Blues were last team and they find us loathsome. Regardless, definately drop by and educate us on the Preds- I don't know to much about them but am going tomorrow with one of the kids. Who should I focus in on? I like to watch a player or two on the opposition during the game....hope its an uptempo game and not neutral zone muck.

774EVER 11-27-2003 03:05 AM

Afternoon games in the middle of the week like this suck big time for Canadian Bruins fans. I know that for my American friends it is Thanksgiving and they will have tomorrow off, but for me, I will be stuck in my classroom teaching math.

I hate missing Bruins games...period.

BTW - Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Bruins fans.

Drury77 11-27-2003 04:21 AM

Well, I can tell you from living here in TN a few players to really keep an eye on from the Preds.

Firstly, and I'm sure obvious to the canadian b's fans, Jordin Tootoo #55. He is a tougher, more talented version of PJ Stock. He will hit you with everything and make you remember him but don't think he can't be dangerous in the offensive end.

Secondly, Marek Zidlicky #3 he is a greatly talented offensive D-man. He would be considered the PP quarterback, and has the pts to prove it.

Then of course you have the "bull" Scott Hartnell, & Legwand who are fairly well known. Scott Walker has been nursing an injury and missed several games and He was very busy in the last game with 2 goals. Don't forget Dan Hamhuis who is playing in his first full season as a pro. He has been steady, but has been hampered a bit by a groin injury (i believe). They have so many players to keep an eye on, you almost could just list the whole roster.

People think that the Preds are just pushovers, but I can guarantee that this is not the same team that the B's have played in the past. The Preds have always played them hard, but this season's team is much more physical and just needs some certain players to get on a roll, and some luck for things to look even better for them.

Don't underestimate the Predators, cuz they will bite you in the ass.

Ortdogg 11-27-2003 07:05 AM

i heard somewhere the preds average more fights a game than any other team...is it true?

if it is than it should be a great game, i love physical hockey and the bruins have a team that can handle themselves in that area. i also find that joe excells in those kind of games, if he gets mad he plays on a very fine edge between loosing it and being so domminant no one can control him..if he plays like he did in the last 2 periods of the st louis game, watch out

go b's

hey, drury ain't kidding. these aren't your grandfather's predators. in fact, they are one of the most entertaining teams to watch (of course, they're in the west). tootoo is like clint eastwood- or at least, he thinks he is. drury's comparison is solid though- pj stock w/much more talent. zidlicky has been flat-out awesome, and not only is he a rafalski clone, but he's got an edge to him too. hamhuis is coming along slower than zidlicky, but he's also many years younger. this kid hits like a train, and b's forwards will need to be aware of where he is, b/c he looks for the big hit (kinda like boynton). hartnell looks like he's breaking out- strong on the puck, good puck skills, fearless. legwand is the magician out there- awesome wheels (think a small notch below modano), and great hands. and vokoun is pretty underrated in the goalie circle- i'd expect him to see lots of rubber tomorrow. if there's a weakness on this team that is glaring, i think it's the D side. thornton's line should own these guys tomorrow- i don't think they have anyone physically mature enough to handle the 700 lb line (but then again, how many teams have a pronger/jackman combo?). should be a fun game to be at- and i expect we'll see some fisticuffs.

PS- WHAT HAPPENED TO MY AVATAR???

PPS- HOW DO I POST WITHOUT COPYING SOMEONE'S ENTIRE POST??

i feel like a rookie :D

hillbilly 11-27-2003 08:01 AM

for who asked the predators have more fighting majors then games played they now have 30 fighting majors after last night here is the list of fights to or atleast who has what
Brookbank 6
Allison 4
Tootoo 4
McKenzie 3
Walker 3
Stevenson 3
Hall 2
Hartnell 2
Schnabel 1
Fiddler 1
Hamhuis 1
somebody also asked the preds forum what the lines are and most the time the lines are these

Hall-Legwand-Hartnell
Erat-Arkhipov-Orzagh
Murray-Johnson-Tootoo or Walker if Walker plays Tootoo will take Stevensons spot on the 4th line and more the likely Walker will be playing
Stevenson-Fiddler-McKenzie

d pairings
Hamhuis-Zidlicky
Timmonen-Eaton
Allison-York

there is a chance Trotz will play 7 d-men then Brookbank will be in and if he is in look for a fight even though I don't think Sandra fights much any more, the preds spread the goals around and it's no telling who will score for them. lately Hartnell has been hot and Walker is coming off a 2 goal game. the preds hit very hard Zidlicky and Hamhuis are good open ice hitters.

barrytrotzsneck 11-27-2003 08:13 AM

as per request...

here's the Predators report, prior to Friday's game against your own Beantown Broons...

Nashville Predators
10-10-1
21 points
3rd Central
9th West(1 point out of 8th, with games in hand)
6-2 in last 8
Vokoun 6-1 in last 7

lines have been:

Hartnell Legwand Hall
Erat Arkhipov Orszagh
Murray Johnson Walker
McKenzie Fiddler Tootoo

defensive pairings have been(though this has varied)

Timonen\Eaton
Zidlicky\Hamhuis
Allison\York

we signed Stan Neckar yesterday, so it's possible he'll be in the lineup on friday, most likely replacing Allison, who has been the only consistent weak link in our D.

Hot:
LW Scott Hartnell
-earned points in last 13 of 15 games, leads the team with 8 goals and 7 assists. Playing on the top line to replace injured Andreas Johansson

LW Martin Erat
-has shown that he got the message that a demotion to the minors was intended to send. Playing with the most intensity of his short career. Possibly the second best stickhandler on the team behind Legwand, and has improved defensively. Great playmaker, and his streak of assists show it.

D Marek Zidlicky
-call me a homer, but I'd be hard-pressed to find many PP QB's better than this guy, right now. His passing is magical, and has a laser accurate, lightning fast shot. Leading team in points with 6 g\11 a

C David Legwand
always leaves us wanting more, but can't complain about his vision and playmaking. Not scoring the goals, but with the way he sets guys up, he might as well be.

G Tomas Vokoun
-Struggled a bit early, but in the past few games has returned to form, making some incredible saves in the Colorado and Columbus games.
---------------------------------------
Interesting-
RW Scott Walker
-missed 7 games with a tweaked groin, game back and scored two goals last night against the BJs, one of which a beautiful short-handed breakaway

RW Jordin Tootoo
-was benched against Colorado due to the fact he hadn't had a point in 13 games and wasn't hitting with the tenacity that he had been. Loud and clear, coach. Comes out with a fire in his belly, crushes Klesla and proceeds to destroy him in a fight...and spends the rest of the game jawing with Shelley and Grand-Pierre..

D Dan Hamhuis
Gets better every game. Early on, he was making rookie mistakes...and still does every so often..but you never see the same mitake twice. I salivate to think of a Suter\Hamhuis pairing in a couple of years.

C Denis Arkihpov
-rumor has it, you're seeing one of the last games with this guy in a Predators uniform. Hasn't lived up to potential in nearly 2 years, and management is starting to get tired of it.

looking forward to the lunchtime slugfest :yo:
good luck...and GO PREDS!

barrytrotzsneck 11-27-2003 08:15 AM

whoops, didn't see hillbilly beat me to it..but i made a seperate thread with a bit more of an in-depth analysis. hope it helps.

Jean_Jacket41 11-27-2003 09:33 AM

I love afternoon games!
I'll take the afternoon off tomorrow and go eat in a sports bar while watching the game. Great way to start the weekend!
Hope the Boys play a sound game tommorow cause after 3 losses in their last 4 games (with 2 OT losses in that span...) They must win their games against lower opponents like Nashville.
Nashville is better than the previous Preds teams but we are clearly a better team.
I'm going with a 5-2 Bruins win with Raycroft in net, Knuble potting two, some fights and Joe with one of his 3-4 points night!
I think it will be a great game to watch!

Happy Thanksgiving to all Americans and...
Go B's Go!

DAMMIT, I had no idea this was an afternoon game, I was really looking forward to watching Jordin Tootoo for the first time this season and now I can't. I hate it American holidays, I always end up missing Bruins games because of it.

But Happy Thanksgiving to all you Americans but what's up with Canada and USA not having their Thanksgiving at the sametime, shouldn't we all give thanks on the same day.

Radulov for Czar* 11-27-2003 11:58 AM

I would definately keep an eye out for Martin Erat. This guy has arguably been our forward MVP for the past month. Should be a great game, and I will say that these Predators are alot better than our record indicates.

I've seen the Preds on ESPN a couple times this year. I really like Walker and Hartnell (both members of Team Cherry, btw). Jordin Tootoo looks like an outstanding young player. He wears a certain "device" that he really shouldn't be wearing if he's going to play that kind of game. I think calling him "tougher than PJ Stock" is a little overboard. They are a fun team to watch, but hopefully the Bs smoke them tomorrow.
I also wouldn't be surprised if the Bs get pushed around for the third straight game tomorrow. I hope this situation is addressed soon.

Scott, then you like me are bummed Hartnell went to the Preds one pick infront of B's. Kirk can clear this up but I heard the B's had a Bruins jersey with Hartnell on it and thought they had a good chance of getting either him or Raffi Torres who went one pick infront of Hartnell. I believe the consensus was if Hartnell (and probably Torres) was on the board they take them but once they went then it was Jonsson. Tootoo is one tough mother- atleast anyone who kills what they eat is in my bood. Heck, I'd be a vegetarian if I had to kill my food :D

Hartnell was the guy they wanted, no doubt about it.

He would've been a first major step towards infusing the team with the skill and character combination that Mike O'Connell has tried to bring on board.

First of all Happy Holidays to my Americans and Happy Thursday to the Canadians!

Im hoping for a great game today, Nashville usually plays up for the better teams in the leauge, however, the road record is not very impressive. Win or Lose, I hope they put on a show for you guys up there.

Toots is a riot on skates and there is character to go around on all 4 lines, so enjoy the game! Im looking forward to it!

Hartnell and Torres were two players that I took notice of during the season prior to their draft years and both, unfortunately, surged up the draft rankings in 2000. Hartnell, however, was my clear cut favourite of the two and the one that I thought would definately be gone by the time the Bruins were picking. I just hope that they got on the phone to Mad Mike to discuss moving up to the five spot.

What I was told, and again- this is all in hindsight, and based on a conversation I had a few years back with someone involved- is that the Bruins wanted three players very badly:

Rick DiPietro, Dany Heatley and Scott Hartnell.

They attempted to work a trade into the top-three, not knowing that Mike Milbury was going to trade Roberto Luongo AND Kevin Weekes on the same day in order to grab DiPietro with the top pick.

Apparently, the Bruins were going for DiPietro at the top, but would've taken Heatley next, with Hartnell being the third guy they were willing to give up a lot (Anson Carter, multiple 1sts, prospects) to consummate a deal. Unfortunately for them, the teams they talked with were very sold on the available players, and wanted a lot more from Boston.

The rest, as they say, is history.

The Isles grabbed DiPietro, Thrashers- Heatley, and Hartnell nearly slipped all the way down to the B's. In the HF Editor Mock Draft, someone actually drafted Anton Volchenkov with the Predators' pick, allowing me to select Hartnell 7th for the Bruins. Alas, reality played out differently. But this kind of thing is a lot of fun to speculate about.

The 2000 draft wasn't considered all that great going into it, but it is actually shaping up to be one of the best years in recent memory given how well a lot of the players have turned out.

Very Quiet in the arena. Pretty quick pace thus far from both sides.

Koun robbed a bruin of what coulda been an early goal.
